In that case, that's easy. I give him a money order of $100 when I see him (on top of the vehicle price). If anything happens, he can cash it. If not, he can mail it back to me.
It's just that I've done my part. I wired him $2K without seeing anything other than the title and his name. I don't see why he can't do the same. Not to mention, what liability can he hold other than paying for a parking ticket? If I rob a bank, he's not going to be liable...
I wouldn't give him the time of day. If the car checks out give him the money, take the title, tell him to have a nice life and drive off into the sunset.
btw. If it doesn't check out don't get all caught up in the havetohaveitnow. Be prepared to walk away....with your $2k in hand.

Well, he's picking me up at the airport so he does know when I'll come.
But yes I'll be ready to walk away if it doesn't check out. He told me it's well kept and that if it's not as he described, he'll give me my money back.
Well, I'll be heading out to Florida tomorrow to see the corvette. Please wish me luck. I will drive very safely and take pictures of along the way. Thanks to those who has helped me, and "screw you" to those of you who kept attacking me (just kidding.. well not really).
I have a good feeling about the trip. I picked the perfect week. The weather (even here in Illinois) is beautiful and my buddy who's already in Orlando said it's awesome down there (as he's going to the beach this afternoon). So the drive should be awesome. I'd love to try the targa top off but I'm guessing it's not a good idea on the highway...
So again, wish me the best of luck! (or if you're a Christian, include me in your prayers).
P.S. If you guys don't hear from me for a week, I may be arrested for driving with no plate. Please come bail me out.
I bought my c5 in tampa fl and you are right they will not give you a tag, the owner if he likes you could leave tag on car and fed ex overnight back to him, my guy would not do that. I am in slidell , louisiana and drove the car without the tag. I had like you signed title, bill of sale, proof of insurance etc. I was even past by a florida state trooper near the panhandle and he did not stop my , set it on cruise and go . Of course a trailer is another way to go. Good luck
I would just about want to bet the farm that SOMETHING goes wrong with this deal. More likely than not actions of the buyer. Why would we think anything different. For every offer, suggestion, opinion, there has always been a rebuttal from the buyer here.
We've not seen any pictures of the car, or a link to where he found it. He's not asked anyone on the forum near the sellers area if they would go take a look at it. As picky as this guy is, I would have thought he'd have independent mechanics crawling all over it a dozen times over with numerous posts asking about this or that on a inspection report.
So, we are led to believe that with literally hundreds of C5's to buy, he decides to get a car he has never seen, never inspected, is "trusting" enough to wire $2000 to a stranger in Florida?
Good luck on the trip. It's exciting. I remember picking mine up in Tampa and driving it home to Northern VA. Great trip for this first time vette owner.

Something isn't right about this picture.
Then again.. I could be totally wrong.....
You see. I added that "screw you" part for people like you
I thought about paying $100 for an inspection but I figure they might send out some crappy guy.. I might as well check it myself (not that I'm a mechanic by any means).
If you want to bet, meet me at Orlando tomorrow?
You seem confused. When there's a suggestion, it either DOES NOT WORK or we have better alternatives. The route I'm going IS one of the suggestions suggested EARLY on.
And the reason I chose this car is because it's the right year, right color, right options, right price.
If you are so desperate to see it, here's the e-bay link:
That's almost exactly the same car I have, same year coupe, same exterior and interior colors. Hope the deal works out, have fun on the return trip, and get it (and you) home safe and sound.
You are wrong. The buyer (total stranger) of my C6 was "trusting" enough to wire me $4,000 from WV. Without any written stipulations. No inspection by anyone either.
Don't rain on his parade.
I agree. Yes, Kai is neurotic, young and inexperienced when it comes to (probably many things in addition to) the process of buying a 'vette. But he's taking a leap of faith here and let's hope it works out for him. If so, great. If not, he'll learn a life lesson that will serve him further down the road. Either way, he'll grow from it. If nothing else, it's pretty good theater for the rest of us.....
Yes, he doesn't know the numbers. Heck, he doesn't even know how to mess with the HUD much. He's an older gentleman. In fact, he doesn't even know how to post the e-bay ad. He had his son do it (his son is Matt). You can tell by his e-bay account name.
Additionally, I searched for the guy and his family shows up. I saw a copy of his title.
I checked GM service history, which showed all the options (including the 3.15). I have clean carfax.
Thanks for your wish of luck at the end, and no thank you for the previous comments
Have a great weekend everyone.
P.S. I just checked in using United's "easy check-in". I call it a "BS check-in". It won't even let me pick a seat for my 2nd flight (Chicago to Orlando) even though there are like 20 avaliable seats. They better not be over-booking and kick me off and make me catch the next flight...
BTW --some people are VERY trusting. The guy who bought my C4 in December wired me the entire selling price ($8K) sight unseen. He was a happy guy when he finally saw the Onyx C4 and still is today.
I picked up my C5 a week after receiving the funds for the C4. I gave the seller a $14.5K bank check after a very cursury walkaround (we had several detailed discussions about the car before I took the 200 mile Amtrak trip to pick it up. He sounded completely legit and knowledgeable -- private owner and Vette fanatic). His son (seller was away on business) took the check without verifying funds. Seller and I are both happy.

Karma...
Thank you for all the support. I am now getting ready to leave my house!
Hopefully when I come home and post the next time, I'll have a C5 in my garage.
