Converter Experts - Feedback Please
I'm going to be doing a 3.42 diff swap to replace my stock 2.73s. I just recently picked up a Yank converter from a local performance shop that was never used. The previous owner before scrapped his plans and decided to go to a higher one - I believe a 4200 or 4500.
The converter I picked up is a Yank C5 3500. I know that I wanted a stall speed of 3300-3500 because I have read that it is best to select one that stalls about 500-700rpm lower than my peak torque which occurs at 4000rpm on the A4 C5s. I did some research on it and found out that it has a 1.65 STR. I know that in my LS1 Camaro I have a 3.73 gear with a 3200 stall with a 2.5 STR. That converter hit the tires very hard. I know I wanted something a bit easier this time around.
After doing some research I have read that this converter can easily roast the tires and I can launch nearly as hard on the street as I can at the strip too. This converter apparently provides great midrange torque. The converter will increase torque out to 4500rpm on an LS1. This will eliminate flat spots after upshifts and makes second gear a monster even at lower speeds.
My question is, with only a Vararam and a cat-back (Z06 TI), will this converter combined with the 3.42s make me happy?
Any thoughts????
Thanks!
