Default my prep build list

can you guys help me put together a build list. i'm going to be doing this at a location other than my house so i need to have EVERYTHING i need when i do this. i also think this can help other people as well

2001 zo6 head/cam upgrade.
i already have lg streets/off road x pipe/b&b bullets

i'm not 100% sure on what kit yet, but i'm leaning towards texas speeds ms4 cam and either texas speeds prc stage 1 ls6 heads with prc dual coil spring kit or the prc 2.5 ls6 heads

what else will i need?

head bolt kit
new oil/filter
head gaskets
new antifreeze
new plugs
dyno tune

help me complete this list!

While we were in there on my sons car, we did the oil pump and timing chain. His car had about 90k on it though.

He bought his stuff from Texas Speed also. He got the ported LS6 pump and whatever double roller chain they have. Way overkill for a street driven car IMO but he should never have problems out of the timing chain.

you can run an LS2 single roller chain. have you looked at a set of patriot heads, you would need a smaller cam for the larger valves?

I have not worked on the LS series engines before but on other engines I have worked on you may need: EDIT I broke this into a list and others with first hand experience on these engines may be able to add/delete

-different sized injectors depening on how wild those heads are, or at least new injector o-rings or a pintle cap set they can break taking them out at least if the car has some miles,

- new waterpump bolts as they like to break on most engines I have worked on, probably not as much of an issue with an aluminum block but they could electroseize.

- intake manifold bolts, you can cut the heads off four of them to be positioning studs but wait the LS series motor intakes dont seal oil do they... probably not as crucial

- I would probably have the rockers rebuilt or buy a set of quality race roller rockers as the factory bearings are known to fail

- you will probably at least need a new timing chain, timing cover seal and front main seal?

- new thermostat and gasket,

- check with manufacturer of heads on plug rec as they are probably not the same as factory

- I would get new header gaskets unless you have percys or other reuseable gaskets

- you may need a new oil pan/timing cover gasket if it is separate on these engines- I don't think it is which would be a good thing...

oh yeah you may need some threaded inserts/plugs if you are deleting the air injection system if it feeds from the back of the heads like most setups.

- I don't know who is doing the work for you but I would assume they have anti-seize/assembly lube/pushrod length checker/test springs/solid lifter/balancer puller/degree kit/etc...

You'll more than likely need injectors, SVO 30lb's would work fine. Have a buddy with a G5X3 cam only Z06 and his injectors were about maxed out.

waterpump and intake bolts shouldn't need to be replaced.

new/rebuilt rockers are a good suggestion for peace of mind and durability

put a new oil pump and timing chain in, timing cover seal should be ok, but should consider replacing front main seal

go with a 160 t stat

would be a good time to do the underdrive pulley, either way you need a new bolt for that

oil pan/timing cover gasket - no gasket, just use RTV to seal it

air system - no worries, attaches to headers

pushrods? lifters?

Just about to do a very similar setup. I bought JtKeller's LS6 from him and I will be putting in an LG G5x3 with TEA Ported/milled 5.3 heads and I am running LG streets with bullets. Keep me posted with what you go with and your numbers. Don't forget about your intake...gonna probably have to grab me a FAST 92 and ported TB...

The G5X3 cam only lasted 21k miles in my 02 Z06. Lifter blew and many lifters had pitted rollers. Lots of groves in the G5X3 cam. Used Mobil 5w-30 synthetic in the car. If you're taking off the heads I would throw in a set of lifters. I have Morel's in my new motor. You need to remember that lifters are working harder with higher lift cams and stronger springs.

sorry to the OP for going a little off topic
