I have desided I have got to get out of here for awhile. I called my brother told him about my idea and he is all for it. We are going to leave out of Ohio on the 14th of this month, head south to Memphis then west. Niether of us has been to the southwest so why not. Kind of our bucket list, sort of. Anyway, I thought maybe we could get some help from forum members. The route we will be taking will be Memphis to Little Rock, onto Oklahoma City, Amarilla, Albuerquerque, Flagstaff, Phoenix and ending up at the grand canyon. If any of you has any suggestions, as far as things to see or do, please let me know about it. We will be posting pictures along the way. Okay send in those ideas!
One word. UTAH! Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, Monument Valley, Dead Horse Point, Salt Lake, Lake Powell, etc etc. Spend as much time as you can out in that area. You won't think your on planet Earth!
Sedona Az is a must do on your way up to the Grand Canyon..
Wife and I did this on our trip back to Reno from Phoenix last fall. We went thru Payson then over to Sedona before heading up to the Grand Canyon.

Utah Rocks!! Spent a few days at Bryce Canyon! (Be ready for the elevation change...!) Might want to cruise back east thru Moab and the Canyonlands, too, before heading back over the Rockies...
You gotta come back I70 through colorado and take a side trip up Mount Evans. The drive on 70 is absolutely amazing through western and central Colorado.

That is one of the most beautiful routes to take. Only thing I would be worried about would be the road conditions and weather at this time of year. I did a cross country trip a few years back in the month of May and still hit snow in the Rockies on I70.
Great idea for a road trip! Might want to wait until May/June timeframe tho; snow and bad weather will show up at the most inopportune times that time of year. But, I-70 is fabulous, and almost all of Utah is great. It would be WAAAY out of the way, but Promontory Point is rather inspiring. And for a quick look at Bryce-like formations, near Zion, check out Cedar Breaks and Brian Head. Great 'Vette roads out there, so enjoy!
