I haven't driven my 2002 for several weeks so I charged the battery last night and drove it to work this morning. The add oil message came on when I drove it last so I added oil this morning. The oil can on the dash is lit up which should indicate low oil pressure but the oil pressure seems fine, 40 lbs at idle and rising as I drive. Is there a way to reset this indicator? Thank you.
Those are some more serious faults, primarily the loss of communication to the BCM. Please open the passenger floor board to gain access to the BCM and see if there is or has been any water damage on it. Is the floor wet? Send a PM to Bill Curlee for his expertise on this. Since you have recorded the codes, clear them, then restart and see what happens with the oil indicator. While you are down there, check each and every fuse with a volt meter. One side to chassis ground and the other side to both sides of each fuse. I suggest you also check all the fuses in the engine compartment fuse box as well.
I should add, when checking those fuses with a meter, on the top of each one, you will see metal. Use the meter probe on those metal parts just barely sticking through therefore you aren't disconnecting the fuses themselves. If the floor is wet, check the udders and make sure they are not plugged up.
I cleared the codes and started the engine. No codes came back but the "oil can light" is still lit. I will check the fuses this weekend. I am sure this is a stupid question but should the key be in the on position when I check the fuses? Thanks
This happened on a Toronado I owned. Kept saying low oil, but oil level was fine, and pressure was good. There was a sensor in the side of the oil pan/crankcase that checks the oil level. It went bad.
Sounds like yours has either had the plug come off, wire break/burn through, or the sensor went bad.
THose are the typical codes I see when the battery gets real low. Clearing them was the right thing to do. If none came back there's nothing to worry about.
The only oil can that I have is on the HUD. You can cycle through the options you want to display with the Page button if that is what you are saying is lit up.
Loss of Comm with the BCM isn't normal at all, however, it was a history code and not a current code which is good of course. As someone noted, it might be something simple such as an oil level sensor wherever that might be located.
Loss of Comm with the BCM is in fact a common occurrence for many of the sensors when the battery is low or bad. The OP said he had to charge up the battery so loss of communications is something one could see for codes in that set of circumstances. If the battery was fully charged then yes it would not be a good thing to see.
The oil level sensor is located on the passenger side back of the oil pan. Easily accessible and can changed when you are doing an oil change since you will be draining the oil out. If you try to change it while the pan is full of oil it will be messy as the oil will run out of the hole where the sensor is located pretty freely. Ask me how I know that.
