I was driving back to Denton from Austin last Wednesday. Top down, tunes cranked, when I hear this "bing, bing, bing" tone. I look down and the " information-meter" says my engine coolant is too hot. And my temp gauge is pointing at 3:00. I slow down and exit the highway. I get my handy internet phone and find a Chevrolet dealer about 7 miles away in Georgetown. They diagnosis my problem as a bad thermostat. They took good care of me and I'm back on my way, and all I've lost is 3 hours.
But now, I can't get rid of the "hot smell." Everything seems OK and the vert runs fine with the temp gauge about 190.
But how to get rid of the smell ? Did the hot coolant get inside the engine compartment and if so, can that be hosed off ?
By the way, if you're ever in Georgetown Texas, on I-35 and you need some help, the folks at Hewlett Chev are OK in my book.
