Steering Wheel Swap... Hello Vette Essentials Wheel!
I've had a new Vette Essentials steering wheel sitting here for a couple weeks, waiting for spring so I could take it to the dealership to have them install it. But then, I decided to look into the process myself. I did, and after reading through some good instructions, service manuals, and consulting with ajg1915 who has done this before, I was confident I could do this job. So I rounded up the tools, and set out slowly and carefully and now I'm proud to say I did my own steering wheel swap and it came out great! I didn't start taking pictures until halfway through, but here's what I have!
You are a brave soul. Great job. I can't wait to see it when it comes out of hibernation this spring. Spring is almost here, I had to take the bird feeders down today as there is a black bear patrolling the neighborhood already.
biggest trick is to make sure you don't turn the wheel and crack the clock spring in the column do that and your screwed. Have to replace it. Great job on the install. LOVE the look

I paid the dealer $75 to swap mine out. I'm now going with a new wheel and thought I might try this until you said this!! Last quote I got was $150 Can anybody give me a write up on procedure?

I used a .pdf file that Tony (ajg1915) emailed me. This used to be up on a website, but the site no longer exists. Tony was fortunate enough to have saved the website as a pdf for future use. You can PM him for the file, or PM me as well and I'll simply pass it forward to you. Be sure to include an email address! The instructions on this file are the best I've seen, and even lays out every last tool you'll need, down to model numbers for the steering wheel puller and legs. Following the instructions was very simple, even though the included pics are thumb-nail size and no longer link to the fullsize pics. Get a copy of these from myself or Tony, look through them, and decide if it's something you can do! Really isn't too bad, but you MUST be SURE to follow the airbag-related steps exactly.

My interior actually is a mish-mash from three different vendors. Originally I only sought to do the seats and carpeting/sills; then vendors started offering sales and one thing led to another.... you know how it goes! My seats are from DJ Motorsport Accessories; they're the guys with the 100% Leather Seats thread here with like 700 replies. What swayed me was that I liked their color layouts better; plus they included a free matching 8-piece interior dressup kit. (Ultimately I didn't use any of it except the two boots; but initially the plan was to use all of it). The shift ****, ebrake handle and console lid are from Carskinz; and the door pulls and wheel are from VE. Superb fit and finish from all three vendors.
Great job and very nice interior. I used to swap out steering wheels years ago on my old Camaro and Datsun Z cars, but doubt I'll try it on my Corvette.
