Default windshield replacement.

I am going to get my windshield replaced. Iwas quoted a price of $855. That's with out the HUD windshield. They said they have to replace the molding. Has anyone heard of this.

Never heard of HUD making any difference on the window. Try these guys https://www.safelite.com/index.jsp I've had them do a few of my cars however none of them were vettes.

The HUD windshield is different (costs more) but I'm told the HUD will work fine on either windshield..

I'm guessing the "molding" is around the windshield and will be damaged when the cut the
old windshield out..

Yes I've had Safelite do 3 of my cars and they've always replaced the molding otherwise they say might not get a good water-tight seal with the old molding. Haven't done my vette though.

The molding or seal is a fairly expensive part...last time I looked, it was close to $279 by itself, but its been a while.

Default Windshield Replacement

I hit a deer last May, and have been having water leak problems in A pillar since then. Now, the bodyshop says I might need the molding replaced. Checked with others and they said mlding should be replaced anytime windshield is replaced. I'm waiting for insurance company to ok

Sounds way too high to me! I'd try some Vette salvage yards!

There are 3 mldgs. The top mldg has the rubber seal molded to it that runs across the top and down the sides for $469.08,plus a mldg on each side $112.77 and $116.04 for total of $697.89.
I've twice replaced windshields in 2 of my C5 convertibles DIY. Did not have to replace any mldgs or seals. With proper removal/reinstallation can be reused w/o leakage issues.
With 1k ded mine were self pay,but if you have insurance and they are willing to pay for new mldgs,go for it.

The is about the same prices I was given. The moldings are a major part of the cost on a Vette.

I had safelite replace mine with the HUD windshield and they replaced the seal that goes the whole way along the windshield (coupe). I had never checked how much the claim was but I just looked and it was only $235! And they even came to my house to do it. In FL there is no deductable on windshield glass so I paid nothing myself.
