It's "Ferrari"...nice. Maybe he mistook your Vette for another Ferrari? I had people come up to me and say "Nice Ferrari" to my Vette...
Or he was just a nice guy who likes all Sports Cars. I would certainly wave to any Exotic which drives by....we're all one big happy family

I see Ferrari's Lamborghini's, Porsche's, and an occasional Bugatti Veyron up in Aspen when I dare go into town. I was surprised at how many of those guys actually wave. It must be a sports car thing. The guys in the AMG Mercedes, BMW M3's, and Bentley's seem to have a stick up their butts though. I bought an M3 for my wife last year and now I'm ashamed to drive the thing. Everybody looks at you like you are some kind of stuck up A-hole. I get much friendlier looks in the Vette. But it's good to see that the Euro crowd isn't above waving at the American muscle out there. Here is a picture that I took last summer. It's of a Ferrari that waved back to me while he was going down a DIRT road. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Must be rough having enough money to treat your Ferrari that way! The second picture is when we hit the pavement. I was in the work truck and there was NO WAY that I was keeping up with him.

I haven't gotten a wave from anything other than a Vette or f-car. However, I did race a F430 and beat him by 3/4 of a car (when mine was stock). That made me happy until I saw his supermodel-looking co-pilot. *sigh*

It's a "Sports Car Thing."
A couple weeks ago I was driving down 410 and a yellow Viper caught up to me and Waved, and I of course returned the wave.
Side note: I told my 7-year-old cousin that a Viper pulled up next to me and I waved. My Cousin then asked, "Did you race him." I told him, "No, it's not legal to race on the street." Then without missing a beat, my 7-year-old cousin says, "Oh, you just didn't want to lose." Then he started laughing.
