Two Questions: Squeak Problem and Shop Problem
When I start my '00 vette, in the morning the engine runs smoothly. As soon as the motor revs to >1.5k i start getting a squeak that increases in volume/ speed until about 4k where it is overwhelmed by the sound of the engine.
This squeak persists until the engine temp has reached 130-160 degrees, at which point it dissipates.
I had one person say it was the "idle tensioner" but the shop(s) never fixed that. Any idea what it could be? It's been going on for like 2 months now.
Second question:
Where is a shop that you trust? I've been to two different shops to fix this problem, and spent over $1,800.. and I still have the squeak. Smitty's on adams first told me it was the alternator which i replaced at their suggestion (not cheap). Problem was still there. Topflight corvette was even worse, telling me it was my water pump, replacing it, then somehow they *broke* my steering wheel and charged me to fix that too... and at the end of the day I still have the squeak.
I swear to god, I'm at the point that i don't really care how much it costs to fix... I just want it to be gone.
Any ideas are very appreciated..
also post this in the c5 tech section..good luck

sometimes just a new belt will fix it. you can even change it without taking anything off.
