Default CLB issue opinions, please!

I've read the Steering Column Lock sticky, as well as others and haven't seen what happened to me detailed in any thread.

It should be a quicky.....for those "in the know".

I just installed the Corvettes of Houston CLB unit in our M6 2004.

Car has only 9000 miles on it and had no recall work done. We just purchased the car a month ago, so haven't had much time to get to know it, but it hasn't had any steering colum lock issues at all.

Installed the CLB purely as preventive maintenance.

Question: On finishing the install, which went just fine, I sat in the driver's seat and cranked the engine. It started fine, but I got the "PULL KEY AND WAIT 10 SECONDS" message in the DIC.

I said some bad words, and shut the engine off. Pulled the key and counted slowly to 15. Stuck the key back in and fired it up again.

Started right up, no message of any kind displayed. Turned off and back on several more times....went for a ride....etc. No messages of any kind.

Came back and pulled codes.......no codes of any kind were stored. Clean slate.

What I'm wondering is: the CLB instructions state to remove a couple of fuses, wait a period of time and reinsert. I just discovered this bit of info today.

Do I need to still pull the fuses if I haven't seen any more messages, and there are no codes of any kind stored?

I'd rather not mess with resetting the BCM by pulling the fuses if I don't need to.

Thoughts?....and THANKS!

I would start by cleaning the resistor in your key. Usually the "Pull Key, Wait 10 Sec" is caused by the VATS system not reading the correct resistance value. A little alchohol and a q-tip will probably fix it.

No. You probably set the code with the unplugging of the column lock while the bcm was powered. If you have no problems now, you are good to go. Your instructions may have stated the following: If you are getting a msg stating "SERVICE COLUMN LOCK" or "PULL KEY AND WAIT 10 SECONDS", shut the car off and once again pull fuse #25 and leave it unplugged for 10 minutes. Reinstall it and all error messages should be cleared and should not return.

I would only pull fuse #25 if the problem reoccurs.

Thanks.....that's pretty much what I was thinking.
