He doesn't sound like a 'great guy' if he tried scare tactics by saying he could take you to jail for speeding (lie)... unless of course it was something crazy like doubling the speed limit.

last time i got pulled over for speeding it was 40mph in a 30. The last speed sign i saw was 40 and i guess it dropped down and i just didn't see it. He pulled me over and was real nice and asked why i was in the Twin Cities(visiting my cousins) and i told him and he just told me to wathc it next time more carefully. He was nice

Yes, you can go to jail for speeding, a citation is more or less a courtesy ..... your signature on it, is an unsecured bond with your promise to appear.

I guess the real question is how fast was he going. Here in FL, I believe anything over 30mph above the speed limit could warrant an arrest, but you almost never hear about it ever happening unless it the circumstance was much more extreme. The scare tactic was used on us alot back in high school when we were fooling around town (rev'ing, etc.) because there was nothing else to do... usually happened when we'd have our girl sitting next to us, but somehow we all 'got off' with a warning.

Jail topic was 'reckless driving', not speeding.
