Its not red but figured I add my 2 cents.. I did 5% all around and love it but its a hassle with police even though I have a tint wavier they still pull me over. I think 15% looks better than 20.. its just alittle darker but noticable or you could get the front two done in 20 and the back done it 5 most states only have laws on the front two windows the rest can be as dark as you want http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...s_car_0141.jpg
I had 20% installed on the rear hatch only - nothing on the side windows. In Pennsylvania, the law reads that tinting cannot interfere with vision INTO the vehicle. I keep a copy of the statute in my glove box (says nothing about % of tint), as received from my State Representative. Keep in mind, if you tint ALL windows, the appearance will be even darker, because you are impeding light from all sources. In otherwords ... if you use 35% on all windows - it will look darker than if you just used 35% on the rear, or just on the sides. If you are unsure about vision on the side windows, you might consider asking for install prices if you just do the rear hatch ... then possibly adding the side windows at a later time. Personally, I do not like to think about getting scratches on the side windows (from window going up & down). My son has a sedan with all windows tinted, and gets scratches from time to time on side windows.
Are there any other pics of people with 20% vs 5% or 15%? I've got a TR Coupe and I'm planning on getting tints. Here in sunny Florida, I'm even considering getting my windsheild tinted too...but have been told it's illegal. Not worried about being pulled over especially since I normally drive with my windows down.
WINDSHIELD: There is a small, horizontal line on windshields ... about 4-6" from toe top, near the A-pillar. That is the maximum line where you can tint a windshield. I thought I heard that Florida was exempt ... but only for another two inches or so. Any legitimate, local tinting shop should be able to tell you the law.
WINDOWS: I think this has been discussed before ... but if you get side windows and rear hatch tinted together ... the result will be darker tint versus what you see in the dealer's showroom. Meaning - if you look at a 20% tint in your hand ... then tint all windows and hatch ... it WILL look darker than 20%, since there is no other light getting behind the tint. I call this the LIMO effect.
VISIBILITY: If you tint 5% on side windows and rear hatch ... I fear you will not be driving the car at night time. In the unlikely event you drive with them up and get in ANY accident ... you will likely be cited for the tint, and possibly a contributing factor to the accident (ie: had you been able to see the other car, you would have been able to avoid them - regardless as to whether you hit them, or vice-versa).
I would suggest that you step around what the car will LOOK like, and find someone who already has a car that is tinted. Find someone with 20% all around - sit in THEIR car - ask them what it is like to drive at night. Then, find someone with 5% tint all around, etc. If your local tint shop does a fair amount of business, they will likely have a few cars rotating in and out of inventory at any given time. REMEMBER TO LOOK AT THE CARS AT NIGHT TIME, for YOUR outward visibility purposes!
I tinted my rear hatch (only) with 20%. It's not super-easy to see clearly at night. I can imagine seeing only blurs if I had to look through 5% ... then HOPE I don't back into someone or something when I am backing out of a parking space.
