Default Rear wheels slip

Hey Guys
On my drive from LaPlace to Houston I had something strange happen to me that I am not sure what caused it. I had been in light rain in and out all day, nothing bad. Around the 822 mile post on I-10 in TX I ran through a heavy rain and the car started to fish tail and wobble just on the rear end. It really felt like a tire going down on the back. I made my way to the shouder got out and checked all OK. My tires are like new so this really has me going . My son has had the car for the part two weeks and all he does is clean the dang thing.Do you think tire dressing on the side wall and up the tred could do this? I did make it over to Houston OK when I got to my shop I checked the back and all looked OK. Tomorrow I will put it up and take a real good look. It felt likr there was no control in the rear..and it did scare the out of me. I travel this way back and forth every two weeks and this is a first for me. I know I have driven in harder rain than I was in and no problems...tire dressing??????

Tire dressing on the tread is dangerous. Do not do that. Sidewall is no problem.

I had that problem with my Z28 the tire dessing migrates around the tire an gets on the tread the first time it gets wet it feels like ice. Also right after it first rains there is an oil scum on the road.

I've had something similar happen, and I'm sure it wasn't because of tire dressing. In my experience these cars are great when the roads are wet, but get really dangerous really fast once there start to be pools of standing water on the road. If a road is well designed and well maintained, then there shouldn't be any standing water even in heavy rain. If there are some irregularities in the road surface where water can pool your best bet is to slow way down just be super careful. My guess is that the combination of wide rear tires + a light rear end makes hydroplaning much more likely than in your typical FWD car with skinny tires and the engine right on top of them.

Maybe it was just the heavey rain ? I know I did not like the feel. I put about 1700 miles a month on her and never had this happen. For tire size the are Nitto Extreme ZR 285/40/ZR 18. Tonight I will check everything out and make darn sure there is nothing loose. Thanks for all the info.. Mark
