OK guys and gals, Looking to buy my first. Coupe, vert, hard top in that order. Budget is $18,000 or less with emphasis on the less. I have an idea of what that gets me and what it doesn't.
I've been doing some researching here but want to get input on what questions I should be asking. With my price cap I figure I'm in the '01 and older zone with more than 50K miles. Correct me if I'm off base.
Any helpful hints or steps to take would be appreciated. How about a long distance transaction? I break more stuff with a wrench than fix so I rely heavily on my mechanic. But looking long distance rules out having him take a look. Any services out there that know Corvettes.
Any helpful replies are appreciated.
Fill out your profile completely, and maybe someone in your area will contact you. Also, just look in the "C5 for Sale" section. There are alot of cars for sale now and the prices are very low.
I would only buy from a local place so you can see it, drive it, and have the car checked out by YOUR mechanic. However, many folks have gone the long distance buyer route, and it worked out well. If you did this, I would ask to have the car checked at a Forum tuner, or mod shop local to where the car is located. A forum vender could be trusted to give you a fair assessment of the car. Then, go to see the car, and drive it yourself before you give the person your money. Like every car, each one has it's own "feel" to it. Find one that makes you feel comfortable in it. Aside from that, have fun. This is a great time for buyers, but not so good for sellers.
Thanks for the hints so far. Put more info in the profile. Good advice on getting seat time and a reliable person to give a potential purchase a look. I hope to be an owner-member soon.
Lot of vettes in the Charlotte area for sale. I would say do not rush into anything especially since the weather is getting warmer and you have the vette fever. I would avoid dealerships totally except maybe Carmax. Check a few corvette clubs like queencity, because right now a lot of c5 owners are moving up to c6's. Take your time and get what you want in options and color, dont settle because like so many ohers have said this is a buyers market and most sellers will negoiate easy.
