Trying to parallel park the steering wheel was difficult to turn left or right. It also made a light screeching noise. While moving it seems to drive normal. Just at low speeds or a stop. Power steering fluid was not low so I did a search & came across changing the differential fluid. Is that what i need to do? I am the 2nd owner so I am not sure if it has been done before, but I have 50,000 miles.I don't know much about cars so I figure out how they are related.
Is that a symptom of dirty fluid, hard to turn the wheels left or right while at a stop?
I assume I can bring it to any shop to get it changed? I looked underneath & it didn't seem very easy to do.
Of course now I can't find the link. I guess I will have to keep searching. I sure have been having a hard time searching here lately. I guess the key words I have been using are too general.
Sounds like the belt tensioner may be weak,or the serpentine belt is worn.(hardened,so it's not "grippy" anymore)
Screeching would be the belt slipping when a load is put on the steering pump.(car not moving=big load on pump when turning wheels)
Worst case scenario,as Hammer99 suggested,is the pump is toast.
I'd check out the cheap stuff first...
