[/IMG] DIY :[IMG]
[/IMG]But I went this direction:[IMG]
[/IMG] This example is not my car , though my car is a QuickSilver Z06. What I did was to mount the SST mesh screen behind the front plate cover opening. After removing the opening's rear vertical mounting face BUT leaving only a 1/4" (.250) lip to fit the black "door edge protector" strip ( to simulate the OEM look). I cut the 12" X 24" screen so as to conform over the back ( not inside) then , after prepping the attachment surface with 3M promoter , used 3M acyrlic foam double sided tape (.06 thick X 1.00 wide). Care taken to keep the mesh pattern aligned, vertically and horizonally. As a final step I secured the mesh with another strip of 3M tape ( 3M 4504 Acrylic foam single (1) sided tape trimmed to fit.[IMG]
[/IMG]The point was to give as much depth to the new grill opening. I'm now trying to locate an approperiate emblem /logo that will enhace an OEM look. I also replaced the black OEM front C5 emblem with one for a silver ( clear coated) 2003 C5 so as to be less visual.
The screen was $45 from McMaster-Carr ( 5x5 .047 dia. 12"x 24"http://www.mcmaster.com/#85385t29/=14gexn), the door edge protector from Brandsport (25 ft roll , cause I needed more for the other screen openings i will install) was about $1.00 a foothttp://www.brandsport.com/trmg-2205-b.html. Expect to pay$15 for 5 yards of the 3M double back tape.
