i have been trying to polish the back side of my wheels , there are small pit marks , i have used mothers polish and the power ball , but no matter how hard or soft i try i cant get a nice shine , any ideas????
You need something more Abrasive than what your using. If it's Polished Aluminum you might as well start with 600 Grit Sandpaper and Keep Stepping it up till you get to 1500 or 2000. But if it's Chrome I'd use Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound & Scratch Remover with the Power Ball. Hope this Helps.
thanks it's alum. stock 01 wheels ,i thought about the wet sanding but i was going with 1200 and working up from there once i stop the wet sanding what types of polish should i use , and what grades of abrasive . i know it's a long process i thought there may be a cream product around , before i start sanding
The stock '01 wheels were clear coated. You should only be working with polishes and compounds intended for cleared finishes or you're going to have problems with some areas having clear remaining.
Just curious but why would you polish the back side of your wheels?? I think your in for a whole lot of work, but if thats what you want then your on the right track sanding first and then polishing. the pit marks are called porisity and you will have to sand until they are gone and then start polishing. good luck

Mine are chromed Alum. and after years of neglect (by a previous owner), they pitted bad enough so that I had to grind the chrome off the barrel insides, prime and paint. The outside chrome finish was in great shape so that's why I did this.

Look into getting a polishing compound (Like the kind that come in a stick form)
