Default Racemesh Grille Installation

Got the Grilles in, the whole kit--front, sides and rears, and have been looking at the installation instructions all day and have a few questions.

#1. I did read to change out the 3M Tape to Velcro on the foglight housing screens but do you put it on all sides or just where the 3m Tape was?

#2. Looking at the rears how in the world do they go on? Do you spot the clear silicone or seal it like a gasket?

#3. After looking at the rears i assume the side ones go on roughly the same way.

#4. For the money detailed instructions with at least a pic or two would be nice

Anyways any advice, thoughts, do's or don't's.....

Thanks,

Thanks,

Do the racemesh grills come with double sided tape or silicone only?

They come with double sided tape and clear silicone, the tape is for "tacking in place"

The rear ones really confuse me but then it doesn't take a lot to do that

You just need (4) 2" pieces on the top and bottom at the corners

#2. Looking at the rears how in the world do they go on? Do you spot the clear silicone or seal it like a gasket?

Gasket

#3. After looking at the rears i assume the side ones go on roughly the same way.

Correct

Yup

This is the biggest one: You have to shape the screens to fit the contour of each application (except the fog light) Go Sloooow. Just
shape it a little at a time. If you wind up having to un-do a bend, you will never get it perfect...

Thanks,
Peace

The side grilles and rear grilles are a pain to install. I tried 3 times to install the side one no luck. With these as expensive as they are you would think they would be easier to install. Very dissapointed. Some guys here have way more patience than me. Check out this posting.

The rear ones install like a clamp over the slots in the rear bumper. The tape/silicone is applied downward at the top and upward at the bottom. My only advise is to make sure the area is nice and clean because it collects a lot of road grime. For me, this was the easiest screen to install.

The side coves are tougher, so make sure to slightly bend the screen before putting it in. Test fit it a few times (I used blue painters tape) just to allow me to look from the outside to make sure the screen matched the curve of the opening. Once I was satisfied, it was a simple peel and stick.

I had someone install the fog and brake duct ones for me. The other ones looked like a big hassle so I skipped them.

Chuck right, the rears don't really need it, they are pretty secure...

I'm just OCD like that

Default Fog Screen Installs

The below info is from another post...not sure who posted It but its how I installed my Fog Screens and it worked like a charm. You just need to remove the 3M tape from housings and follow below instructions....Tim

Velcro install is pretty easy...clean both inside fog area real good and on screens. Dry fit the screens so you can see where the velcro will need to be. Cut the velcro so that it runs along the length of the screens. When you put them on...put a piece of paper over the velcro on the bottom and top, then push the screens in...at this point the two pieces will not be touching because the paper is in between. This allows you to push them all the way back without having to worry about them sticking together before you get them to the back. Once you push them all the way back, pull the paper out and the velcro sides will come in contact with eathother. Go ahead and wiggle them up and down a little to make sure the tops and bottoms make contact. You can try to pull them out at this point but they won't budge...

Great advise! However, what is the best way to remove them if you need to?

Thanks for the info please keep it coming!

My patience is always a little short on stuff like this especially when the items could be made more install friendly for what they are. The edges could be bent in on the sides and rear to allow for siliconing them in place rather than a flat piece of mesh.

On a side note the fender cove ones are already pre-bent so hopefully they have taken that step to at least do that

I did read the post about the paper between the velcro and that is my plan

Once again thanks for the info and keep it coming, anybody with install pics

Don't be afraid of the cove screens. Just remove the wheel and inner fender. I think about 7 screws. Shape to fit and then apply a good bead of clear silicone around the inner part of the fender. Place the screen in place and secure by hooking a bungee cord in the screen and then wrap the other end around the mirror. You don't need a lot of pressure so use a long enough bungee cord. You can put a towel around the mirror if your think you may scratch them. Let set overnight, remove the bungee cord, and your done.

The screens I bought were not the "racemesh" screens provided by that vendor, rather a set of chrome screens I purchased elsewhere. Both the side cove and rear bumper screens already had vertical bends in them where the double sided tape was already installed. All I had to do was peel and slightly press (after cleaning). No silicone was used and the screens have been in place for four years.

I have not yet installed any fog light screens because I am waiting until I finish my HID fog light conversion. I plan to use the velcro solution described in case I want to remove to clean, etc.

The rears should be slightly bent on the very end so it could lay flat againist the inside of the bumper /fascia, that would help on the install. The rears are the ones making me think but they are the only ones i've looked at closely so the side cove's may be just as

We'll see how it goes this weekend
