First off, I posted this query in the audio/electronic section and have had like 2 views. I figured I might be able to get some help in here:

I'm wanting to replace the factory CD player with either an Alpine or Pioneer deck. I checked out one on crutchfield and it said I'd have to modify a rear bracket and that I would also lose my 8" door woofers by replacing the factory stereo. So...since I don't know much at all about stereo decks, can anyone give me some suggestions? I don't want to have to lose speakers.

I want a decent deck...$200 or so...that can play my iPod as well as mp3s CDs, etc.

It wouldn't cost that much really to replace the entire system. The stock stereo in our cars is absolutely horrible. It's night and day difference when you do the system. If you decide to keep the stock speakers, that adapter the poster above posted is not correct. There is only one adapter out there that works properly and that is is the soundgate. That C5 Audio FAQ has a link about head units and I can't get it to work. I was hoping just to order something from Crutchfield and so the quick install, but it looks like I'll have to take my car to a shop and get some custom stuff. I don't want to get a decent deck and have it sound like poop.

 

yes the rear support bracket needs to be bent back or cut out, it wont effect going back to stock

get a gmcrv2 harness it will retain stock subs
