Very simple simple ? here...My battery died on me and have to replace it tomorrow im hoping. Just has enough juice to keep inside on but wont start. My fault for not disconnecting over winter ...my question is....
Is there anything I need to know special about changing the vette battery??? I know how to change one lol, but never did with any of my other vettes...just want to make sure there is nothing special or surprising I should know or do????
...did you also use the same battery brand (ac delco) if you changed yours out also ???
Thanks for the quick help and taking the time..
How old is the battery? Did you try charging it? Just curious.
Get a CTEK trickle charger after you get the new battery

First, I agree strongly with the poster above, who said, "Do yourself a favor an buy yourself the little ratchet rench made for changing the side mount battery."
Second, It's late in the thread to ask, unless I missed it, but I assume we know the battery is bad and cannot be recharged? has recharging been tried?
ECL, electronic column lock. Had a formal recall, Chevy did a terrible job with this one and amended the recall three times and still didn't get it right and pretty much gave up. Without going into all the details, a quick start or low voltage on the ECM will trigger a Service Column Lock which locks the steering column. The best and I consider the only solution is the column lock bypass module. Sold by a number of places, such as Corvette of Houston, for about $45, installs in about 20 minutes. The process involves turning the key on so the actuator retracts the pin, a fuse is pulled and then power disconnected from the actuator permanently removes the power and it won't activate again. The module is plugged into to trick the computer (ECM) to think everything is ok and it won't set the DLC (error code).
I should add, reference Recall Bulletin 04006C
Mine recently locked after having the recall done. PIA. Had the column lock bypass installed and I'll never have to worry about it again.
Would have done it myself, but they already had everything pulled apart to unlock it.
ALL went well...EASY EASY...I just went and bought the settings saver at autozone and that was it. Changed out the battery for a new one, and it fired rigth up stronger than ever...no loss on settings and no lock etc..(wasnt sure i had the prob on mine or not..04)....I was a lil worried after seeing some of the posts here and never thought id get two pages of replies...but I guess its something others have thought about etc...anyways...A SUCCESS and I thanks all those that posted and helped with advice!!!:thumbs :
Excellent. BTW, if you haven't ensured the ECL issue has been resolved, don't ignore this. When my original battery went dead I thought I was fine too, a few weeks later got in put the key in and to on and got the infamous Service Column Lock. I ordered my bypass module 30 minutes later after I got it unlocked after practically shaking the steering wheel out of the car! Verify if the previous owner had the work done or if anything was done in the GM service records on the VIN. Confirm whether or not the steering locks when you remove the key. If it doesn't you know something has been done but perhaps not what. If it locks you need to address it.
Just went with the Delco...admittedly I didnt do much research on any other but after seeing few things on the Optima, I may have went with that. I just went with Delco as they had them in stock near me and wanted to change it out asap....starts great though..very strong! No probs..
