I've got to go along with happa on this. I'm an "old guy" and I've never heard of this, and it doesn't sound like a good idea. If the manufacture could have safely made the hub thinner (just for weight savings) don't you think they would have done it.
vq motoring shave 3mm off of the ruff if ask, you could not shave much but this happens more than you thank. 3mm can totally change the looks. I guess what i really need to know is how much is to much. I have one wheel that is out farther than the other and i really dont like the way the back stick out.
3mm is .11811 inches or just under 1/8 of an inch. I agree with the other responders to this question. Not something I would do. If the folk you named are willing to shave the thickness of the mounting hub by 1/8th of an inch, I would stay as far away from them as possible.........
If one wheel sticks out farther than the other, then it sounds like you've got a body/frame/suspension misalignment problem.
Shaving metal off a wheel, especially the mounting flange area, sounds like a particularly bad idea.
So my answer to your original question would be "none",and "buy some wheels that fit"

Was the guy that told you Vqmotoring would shave wheels the one that also told you only a 3 piece wheel would fit a C5?
