I see that GM has completely dismantled their High Performance Vehicle section, reassigning or terminating the engineers involved. Although Corvette prospects have been dim at certain times in the past, this appears very serious. Are we looking at the end of Corvette?
I think the issue is not the Corvette but GM. If GM goes under OR if GM is in the position of only producing vehicles that the Government wants, then there will never be a C7
If Obama and his marxist socialists have their way, we will all be driving little econoboxes that some how or another, will run on solar power and will take 30 seconds to get to 30 mph. Bear in mind that these people want to control your TOTAL life.
amen to that brother! we MUST NOT LET THAT HAPPEN!

I don't think GM will survive as it is now. I believe that the feds will let it go into bankruptcy, as they should have done months ago. People are not going to buy cars from a dying company regardless of a warranty program run by the government. The cars are not good enough to compete in the world car market today. The company will never be competitive as long as the current wage and retirement contracts are so expensive for them. And the unions won't back down enough to let GM build cars with similar labor costs per unit that most Japanese car companies now enjoy.
The Corvette is probably one of the most profitable cars GM sells. But a new company emerging from the old GM will likely try to build smaller more fuel efficient cars down the line, and most of the models we see will not emerge.
I have a friend, albeit a crack pot, he knows his stuff when it comes to Corvettes. He said he believed that GM would be selling off the Corvette division and that Corvette would continue as it's own company. This information is worth what it costs you, but still interesting in light of the other news GM is making.
It seems to me, that a very expensive non-essential automobile, that sells out each year, is going to continue.
I certainly could not have purchased my Vette new, but somebody did. And somebody will continue to do so.
No matter what the economic climate, there will always be those that do well in a bad economy.
And by the way, I can't think of a single "GM" or "Chevrolet" badge on my car.

The rumor of Corvette being on its own and not owned by GM has been going around for awhile. Cant say that its not going to happen and I dont think it will. As for the Chevy badge on your car. You might want to go look at the Corvette emblem again. It has the Chevy bowtie on it. So unless you took all the Corvette emblems off your car, you do have a Chevy badge on it, just not like most other Chevys.
If you know the history of the Corvette and GM there have been times in the past that GM has gotten out of racing or discontinued their performance divisions. They alway come back and for the last 56 years every year but one they keep rolling off the line. I doubt they will discontinue the Corvette in the near future.
I don't think the Vette will go away, but you never know. The Viper is a goner - RIP If the only 2 real US sports cars go away, I do hope somehow they survive - perhaps as indepedent models by an independent company...
