Default Clb question

Don't jump on me, I have read all the CLB Threads and have one installed on my 1998 MN6.

BUT, I was responding to another CLB Thread when I have a revelation:

I never had any Column Lock recalls done on my car, so I don't have the fuel shutoff reprograming. Why couldn't I have just disconnected the column lock motor when it was retracted and left my car that way?

Now, I am paranoid, and the few times I have had my C5 serviced at a dealer's, I leave a note saying not to update the "computer", I don't want the fuel shutoff reprogramed.

You could have done this but the vehicle would sense something is wrong and throw a hissy fit.

That's what the CLB does,,fools the system into the safe mode,,thus no codes. Mine doesn't even have the lock plate,,but it got shut down anyhow before I put in a CLB. But it did have two recalls before I got it! But with the CLB The pin stays put and the computer gets the proper signal. It wouldn't get that signal if things were Just disconnected .

8VETTE7 thanks for the explanation.

So, I am glad I installed the CLB, as I don't want that message in my DIC.

Great explanation. Get the CLB - it could save you a lot of hassle later on.

I have a 2003 witht eh 6spd. Who on the forum can you get the CLB from? I found one on "the big auction site". But, if I can get one from someone on the forum, I would rather do that.

I got mine from Corvettes of Dallas, works fine on my 1998 (some say CLBs have problems with early year C5s).
