I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong on this but as far as I know its just an alphanumeric production option code which identifies a particular engine type. GM has used the L prefix for engine codes for a long time (L-82, LT-1, LS-1, etc...).
All I know is that L can indicate Longitudinal as opposed to T for transverse in the mounting application. For example a 4L60-E transmission vs. a 4T60-E.

no need for correction, you are right.
Its just an RPO (Regular Production Order) code. The letters don't stand for anything.

That's all it means. Nothing really special about it.
I may be mistaken here but "Jake" was originally painted by one of the Corvette Racing team members in a garage or something. It stuck and became the team logo

That's kind of what I was thinking but wasn't sure. The TT has a long history. As far as I know the Audi TT (car) is not twin turbocharged. They have been calling that car the "TT" for years. Maybe they've changed something recently. Dunno for sure.
Marketing. It's all about marketing and what different companies choose to call their stuff.

Looks like I'm wrong about the TT. Oh well. Never thought I was an expert on Audi's anyway. After Watching Transporter 3 I do know that they handle well on two wheels, start right up after being on the bottom of a lake and that air is more bouyant when in dry cleaning bags than in tires.
The audi is not twin turboed. They have a single turbo though on some of the 2.0 liter engines. The BMW 335, 135, 535 are all twin turboed engines though.

Thanks, and yeah everyone I ask says it stands for twin turbo but knew it wasn't they are only 1.8L I believe. I believe they are all only single turbo and not all that quick.
You can go to corvetteracing.com or badboyvettes.com for the full story on Jake.
It goes something like this;
At 24 Hours of LeMans the motto was "Take No Prisoners"
Someone on the C5R crew saw a pirate image of skull and cross bones
The thought it would be a cool mascot
They named him Jake
Now they sell everything, including the new C6 Corvette, with Jake on it.
