Just a couple. Does any one here drive summer tires year round? What is the reason they can't be driven in freezing temps? And finally,do we get a discount at Tirerack.com through the forum?

Summer tires in sub freezing temperatures are not a good idea - the tread compound doesn't warm up enough to give sufficient adhesion, and the end result could mean a disaster. Also - summer tires are not meant to be driven on wet cold roads for the same reason.
Rubber reacts to temperature, and gets more sticky as the temperature rises. Summer tires are great on dry hot roads, but terrible on cold wet roads.
I am not aware of any discount offered by Tire Rack to CF members.....
I just purchased Firestone Wide Ovals back in December. I love the tires, look great, really grip....but only when it is warm(er). Below about 40F it is really difficult when you first leave the house.
All in all, they can be driven, but it should NOT be your DD.
My Z06 is a daily driver and I only have one set of Goodyear F1 SC tires that I drive on year around. There was one time that my car suddenly went sideways in freezing temperatures, but I just wrote it off to an active handling malfunction...I turned it off after that and never had another problem.
I try and drive my Vette right up until the snow starts flying for good. My OEM Run Flats actually did ok in cold temperatures and even snow. This last fall I switched to Ultra High performance summer tires and they had near Zero traction in Cold/Wet roads.

I drove my car with the OEM Goodyear runflats on it in the winter, but traction was severely limited. It would get me around, but there were some anxious moments.
