Default click click.....??

my car's been making this single or 2 click noise right at takeoff, it doesn't do it everytime but it does do it pretty often, again this is only right when i'm slipping the clutch in 1st and the car is just barely rolling, it's coming from the rear of the car, sounds like right rear, any ideas?

My car does the exact same thing, I would also like to know what this is!

That's the rear axle spline, the part where the axle meets the hub center teeth, it gets rusted therefore the click...

Some axle grease in that area should take care of it...

Take off rear wheel, remove center nut holding the axle, pull back on the CV joint and apply grease inside the hub teeth area... do it on both sides!

There's a thread on this with pics, not sure where it is...

<breaths a sigh of relief, i thought it was leading up to something more serious like the axle itself, i'm doing my trans/diff fluid this weekend at my buddys with a lift so i guess we'll just have to pull the rear wheels off and address this problem, thanks for the help!!

I had the same sound from the rear of my car. The passenger side upper rear shock needed to be re-torqued.

Before you remove the rear axle nut, you might want to check the torque on it so that you will know if you have a problem with the nut getting loose, or just rust buildup on the splines and hub.
It is not the splines themselves making the noise, it is the stick/release action of the surface where the hub pulls into the bearing hub. IT will usually occur when you change the load on the drive axles. Mine would pop in both directions.

My 2002 just started doing this as well after sitting all winter, do not ever recall this happening before storage.

I sprayed some Power Blaster on the ends of the axles without taking things apart to see if it could get into the splines. So far its worked.
