I'm looking to buy my first vette, long time coming. So if anyone out there can advise and give information I would appreciate it.
Right now I need some answers to some 2000 C5 questions.
Is it normal to have three holes in the door panel right behind the door handle for pulling the door shut? Both sides of this vette I'm thinking about buying has these holes.
Problems.. What type of problems have there been for the 2000 C5 that seem to be common among them?
The hood has a chip/rough edge right on the very end of the hood facing the driver/windshield. When it is rubbed/touched the fiberglass flakes, this rough spot is trough the paint. How could the be touched up or sealed?
I've seen a lot of vettes where the trunk does not pop up. This seems to be common. Is there a better replacement spring to make it pop or do we just have to suffer through this with the older ones?
Thanks for any response that can help me here. I want to get one soon before something interferes.
Have no idea what the three holes are, but I assume someone has been mucking with that car. My advice to anyone wanting a C5 is to save your money until you can afford to buy the very best unmodified original, low-mileage, garage-kept car you can find. Then try to keep it in a garage or at least a carport. If you can't keep it under cover and are going to use it as a daily driver then a car with more miles at a lower price might make sense, but still try to find a well-kept unmodified car. A C5 with problems can eat 5 thousand or more dollars so fast it will make your head spin, and that is money that could have been used to pay for a issue-free car up front. Nothing really wrong with the earlier cars, but try to find a 2001-up C5 as they have numerous worthwhile improvements. Read the diagnostic codes on any car you are thinking about buying--it's easy to do and may alert you to problems you otherwise wouldn't know about until after you bought it. Find a knowledgeable C5 owner in your locality, from a Corvette Club or someone at a car show, and ask him to look your prospective purchase over. Offer to pay him; most times such a person will decline your money. Good luck.
The three holes should be covered with a small plastic piece. They do fall off from time to time. You can get a replacement trim piece from any dealer.

There is a plug that goes over the area with the three holes behind the door grab handle. You can get the part from a dealer - not very expensive at all.
I've got some Word files that might just help you out. PM me your e-mail address if you would like a copy.
And as far as the '00 goes, common problems are column lock (get the Column Lock Bypass), leaking differential seals, rocking seats.

i did the same thing actually. But yeah, i would definetely suggest buying a low mileage, garage-kept c5. I HIGHLY SUGGEST a pre-buy inspection also
