I have a 2002 c5 and I was washing it the other day and noticed my left front wheel was completely cracked all the way through on one of the 5 spokes. I have never done anything to damaged it or hit anything. It seems like it just cracked because of cheap metal or something. Has this happend to anyones wheels before and what can be done about it? Will it be taken care of threw the dealership or am I just screwed?
The forged high polish thin spokes have a problem like that. GM does not sell those wheels any more. The wheels they sell are high polished versions of the cast thin spokes that used to be the base wheel. People started finding cracked thins spokes in early 2004. I know two people that had the problem at the same time one had a 2001 and the other a 2002. The 2002 was covered under warranty and got 4 new wheels the other was covered under a dealer's customer service policy where the owner had to pay $25% of the cost of a new set of wheels.
There is a noticeable difference in spoke width between the two wheels and you will need to replace all 4 wheels to get a match.
You could buy a used wheel but there is a chance one of the other wheels will crack or even the wheel you buy will crack.
