.........unplug your battery tender during a thunderstorm ,Im thinking that a power surge may zap your computer and that will make Jack a dull boy.

I had an Ipod desk stereo that stopped working do to a surge blowing out the AC adaptor. When I went back to the store due to the warranty, the stereo tech told me that the surge protectors are only good for one surge. After that they are fried. He also told me that any type of electrical surge such as the lights going on/off for no reason etc. could actually be a surge.
If true, pretty sad considering the ones I have hooked up to my stereo/HD TV and computer were about $40 each!

Best bet would be to protect your whole house panel with a Lightning Arrester
Most lightning probs are because the surge comes thru ground, not the power side of your service and there's no protection there!
Check with DELTRAN CORPORATION for their recommendations (if you're using an actual BATTERY TENDER PLUS/JR. and not a generic reference to anything else).
I also keep mine on a surge protector and have lost power during lightning storms. No issues once power returned.
I think the BATTERY TENDER and CTEK products have pretty sophisticated electronics protection. I'd be hesitant with anything from HARBOR FREIGHT though...

I have had many, cars, boats and motorcycles hooked to tenders for the past 30 years and never had any sort of surge problem(did lose a tv and game cube to a lightning strike though) and down here with all the hurricanes and the power surges the elec goes off and on every time someone flushes a toilet! I wouldnt worry about it.
