Continously having to reprogram my Fob.......Help?
I keep having to reprogram my key fob on my 99 vert. If I leave it for more than a day, I have to hold both buttons next to the car to reprogram it. I just changed the battery in the fob & I turned off the approach mode. The car battery also has good charge. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I had the same problem with my '98 when I bought it. There are a number of things which can cause fobs to act up. Have you tried a search? In my case, a small cylindrical electronic do-dad () came loose from the board inside the fob. I found a picture of what the board looks like here in the Forum. Just soldered it back in and it has worked fine ever since!
Same thing happened to me and I took it to the dealer and had it checked out. The fob needed replacement. I bought a new fob and I have had no problems since
Before you do what I did and buy one before doing a search check out this link. I found that this fixed my FOB. Now I have three for one car. Just like the common climate control bad solder joints, the remotes had a few. When fixed months ago, I never had a problem since. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...em-solved.html
Mine does the same thing, I took it apart to see if any of the connections were loose, and they are fine. But if I take the little circuit board out, and shake it, it sounds like something is loose and rattles.
I am just going to order a new one and forget trying to fix this one. I have to hold both buttons in everytime I go to unlock/lock my car, so I dont even have the fob on my key chain anymore, I just use the key to open the car.
The rattle is suppose to be there, it's a passive arm/disarm feature. If you look inside on the PC board you will see a small IC chip. The reason lots of fobs loose memory is that one or two solder connections between the chip and the board come loose and cause intermittent loss of connection. The fix is to re solder these connections and you should not have any more problems.
