There was a place near me that was robbing customers last year when the Z was new. I believe it was Ramp Chevrolet that was asking for up to 8k over if you wanted a MY Z06. :mad
I've heard of many people that will never go there because of that fact alone.
Which Euro manu would that be? Not BMW, they where asking up to $250k for the $130k Z8 now they can be had for sticker. M5s where $10-20k over sticker and the M3s where $5-10k over. Since the economy has softened you can now pick up these car for around sticker or a little less if you shop.
I wish Chevy would adopt some of the policies that the European manuf. have that limit the price that can be charged on a new car.
Click on this link below, and go half-way down to "featured listing" There are private sellers and dealers asking up to 60k for a used Z06 02 with like 5k miles on it!
These stupid people make me mad! But I guess I could give them, one of these...  http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/r...ed=y&x=26&y=11

Personally..... I never understand this line of thinking. If you had a house for sale or your Vette for sale........ would you want someone telling you the maximum you could ask for the house or the car? Of course not! Why do you feel that dealers should be subjected to that form of government intervention? What is the harm in a dealer asking a price that they think they can get? If you don't want to pay it, offer them less and then move on if they reject your offer. It is very simple and no different than the rights you would want if selling something privately.
And that is why I did not buy my car in Houston. I live here in the Houston area. During the 0% financing offer, Bill Heard was asking 10K over sticker.
A friend of mine went in because he was in the market for a new Vette. When they told him that, he laughed. He went to Maxie-Price instead. He bought a '01 Z (this was right before 9/11) at 6K off sticker plus a rebate from his GM mastercard. He paid less than 40K driveout.
Right after that I decided to buy a Z (after 9/11) and with the 0% finacing offer the dealers got really greedy. Those that had cars wanted 8-10K over sticker (Landmark, Bill Heard) Others had "cars on order" (Knapp) that you could put 1-2K down on but they had no idea of color or options and you would just have to take whatever came in. And they would try to get down to close to sticker (gee thanks). The other dealers in town Ron Craft, Timmers, and a few others just weren't going to get cars period.
Before my buddy flew to Georgia to pick up a car, he called the salesman at Bill Heard, and explained the deal he was getting. He asked the guy why they wouldn't deal on Corvettes.
Their response was "We get 150 Corvettes a year, and we sell all of them for over sticker". My friends response was "Well, Maxie-Price sells 750." Wouldn't you prefer to move more cars at a slightly lower margin. The salesman at Heard simply said that the folks at Maxie-Price were idiots and had no business selling cars that cheap.
When I got ready to buy my car. I decided on a Thursday to buy. I went out on the internet and found dealers who listed the car I was looking for in inventory on their website. Maxie was out of cars, but expecting a shipment soon. Bill Estes was out also.
I found a dealer in Colorado and a dealer in Daytona, Fl (Hall) who had exactly what I was looking for. I called the dealer in Fl, told them who I had shopped with, where I was at, and what I was willing to pay. In two short (less than 5 minutes) conversations I had a car for 2K under sticker. Basically a savings of 12K over buying in Houston. As a side note, the dealer had all their cars marked at 3K over sticker. They told me that they didn't sell cars under sticker, but since I had done my homework, and knew where else I could spend my money, the would sell to me for that price. Also it was the end of the month and it would help make their numbers (yada yada). When I got there some other guy was looking at a Red Z for 3K over sticker. In an attempt to help him out, I told him what I was paying (I don't think the salesmans appreciated that).
I flew the next morning to Daytona, picked up my car and drove 1100 miles that night. The next day I was back in Houston driving around in a new Z.
You guys don't want to know what I paid for my Z06.
I bought it from a dealer in Jacksonville. It was the ONLY Vette he was shipped the entire year. Jacksonville is a redneck town where 1/2 the cars on the road are pick up trucks and thats what this dealership sold. The dealer was very nervous when it came in because he did not want it sitting on his lot. He gave me $39,000 for my 2000 Coupe and then sold me the Z06 for $1000 over invoice. :D My coupe was paid off and I wrote the guy a check for about $5K.
