what brand of aftermarket pump that is less noisy? i've read of a GM insulation kit to reduce noise. anyone tried that? if i missed a thread, point me in the right direction.

I would recommend a racetronix 255 pump and hotwire harness... they sell the pump already assembled in a new bucket with upgraded pump wiring, makes the install a little simpler and the kit is relatively cheap
I replaced mine at 200K miles. The pump seemed to be working fine but my sending unit quit. Given the miles, I decided to replace the pump too. Considered it preventive maintenance.
You revived an old thread. Make sure you're aware that mid 2003, they changed the gas tank configuration. Pre mid 2003, you could change the pump without dropping the tank. Not so with the later models.
Won't be too bad of a change out on the original posters 99....
being the pumps location.
The OP opened this thread in April 2009. He is likely driving a Lamborghini by now. lol I was in a hurry earlier so I didn't take the time to investigate Chiapet's info to realize he has a 2001. He revived the thread today. This is where it would be helpful if the date of the original posting was included with the thread title.
Chiapet - Are you having issues or just curious about fuel pump life expectancy? You having a 2001 will make it easy to replace if necessary. If you can change a tire, you have the skills necessary to change the pump / fuel sender. I took my time and did both sides in about 2 hrs.

damn I didn't even realize how old this thread was lol... oh well, I at least give chiapet credit for actually searching and trying to find an answer by posting on an existing thread rather than opening a new thread with the same topic that happens day after day
