Default Stock Battery in 03?

I'm sure this has been asked several times, so take it easy on me.

I don't think I have the stocker in, but want to make sure as I've heard of the leaking issues.

Thanks for the help as always.

Matt

Default Stock Battery in 03?

Matt, I recently bought a 4500-mile '03 Coupe with its original battery. It was a grey AGM Delco, had been kept on a Battery Tender and was/is fine although I replaced it anyway. I don't think you have to worry about leaking batteries in '03s, but a couple minutes taking yours out to look underneath would put your mind at ease. The terminal clamps should not be overtightened, manual says 11 foot-pounds but getting a torque wrench in there is difficult at best. Just tighten securely, make sure the cable can't move, check again later. Quite a few C5 owners put an absorbent mat or plastic pan under the battery and I think that's cheap insurance. When you remove a C5's battery and look at the design which basically guarantees that any leaking battery acid will funnel right down to important wiring areas, you'll wonder what the hell the engineers were thinking. Good luck, Ralph Boineau in central South Carolina.
