I am thinking about installing a shift light in my 00 coupe M6.
I know you wire the red to + and black to - and green goes to the tach signal, but where do you get the correct tach signal on our cars.
Next question Who has shift lights and do you like them? Where do you have them installed, and what shift points are you using.
There's a large cluster of wires that run up to the gauges. Unbundle the cluster and you'll find 4 white wires. One of them is the tach signal.
I took a sewing pin and stuck it into each wire, one at a time... fired up the car and checked if the light would come on (setting the light at 2k for testing). I hit the correct white wire on my second attempt.
Other than that, you have to run a wire over to the ECM. It's pin 10 (also white wire) on the blue connector.
Ok, so I finally got it installed and working properly. My advice to the next guy. There can be four or three white wires to choose from. Test all the wires. When testing the white wires push hard and make sure the light tester is making contact with the wire. I only had the tach jump one time for me.
