Its a little hard to explain this problem but I'll try: 2000 A4 C5 with 35,500 miles...Only when Im backing up I hear what can best be described as a light grinding noise with a little bit of vibration. I know it's coming from the rear. Pretty sure it's tranny related..or maybe the diff..Is this something I need to be concerned about? It has always done it since I got the car a year ago. No problems going foward...thanks...Paully

You'll need to change the Diff fluid. Be sure to add the LSD lubricant to the fluid as well. After changing the fluid, do a series of slow figure-eights in a parking lot (forwards and backwards) to work the LSD fluid into your syncros.
This works well for a while. After the third time I needed to change the fluid, I just replaced the 2:73's with 3:42's. It hasn't happened since.
