Default skip shift eliminator?

hey everyone,
Ive had my Z for about 8 months now and its a blast, but my one problem, and its a small one, is the 1-4 skip shift...most of the time it isnt a problem since I do mostly high way and back road driving with my Z and rarely commute in traffic...but once in a while, in stop and go traffic its a hassle...does anyone here use a skip shift elminator from a company like slp? are there any downsides to using this? thanks

Just go to a tuner and have them make it to where it doesn't do that...

It is cheaper to just get the plug in resistor that several suppliers sell, and my guess is that everyone with a manual transmission has probably bypassed the solenoid in one way or another.

I used the skip shift eliminator (from Jim at Southern Car Parts) and it was probably the best mod I've done. The 1-4 shift is a PITA. With this thing installed, you will still see the "1-4 SHIFT" light on the speedo, but you can shift freely into 2nd every time.

Installation is very simple; just need a jack and jackstands to get the back of the car up enough to crawl under. I did the job in about 3 minutes.

any one of them should work fine, it's just a resistor to make the computer think it's still plugged in. That is always my first mod.

If you are not having your car tuned, the eliminator is an excellent mod. It takes about five minutes to install. When I had my car retuned though, the skip shift was programmed out. This does away with the need for the plug in device. The one advantage of it being programmed out of the computer though is that with the plug-in device the shift light will still illuminate, programming removes the light too. But if you're not spending the bucks for a tune, the device works great for minimal money. I have my previously used part sitting on my bench since the tune. If anyone wants to buy it from me even cheaper than the retail price, let me know. Hadn't thought about it until this subject came up.

I went to an electronic parts store and bought a 2.2 KOhm resistor, disconnected the harness on the tranny, and plugged it into the harness end. Taped it up to protect it from the elements and tie-wrapped it up out of the way, and it's been working since Oct 2000 that way. Best $0.19 I ever spent, next to the 5.7 KOhm resistor I put in to disable the auto-headlight-popup crap that they force on us up here in Canada (I liked to be able to pull in/out of the garage without shining the headlights in my kids' windows).

Simple, cheap, easy, five minute mod. Significant improvement. The 1 to 4 shift took a lot of the fun out of the car.

So what can happen if you just unplug the line? will a check engine or service light come on?
