How good is the stock tire inflator kit compared to aftermaket kits? And where could I purchase new sealant to replace my expired one? And how long to they generaly last if not opened?
I used my kit on the wife's Benz when she ran over a bolt at the movie theater, It got her home & the next day to the dealer. They said we needed a new tire that the hole was to big to repair. The sealer was dated 05.
All this happened about 5 weeks ago. So you tell me?
I think it will last a lot longer than they date it BUT!
maybe I got lucky
If it's a GM Z06 compressor kit, you can buy the sealant from any GM dealer...better yet, from Gene Culley of GMPARTSHOUSE, a site supporting vendor.
As long as the sealant isn't exposed to air, it should last longer than the label states, but I have no scientific proof to back that up. And I'd hate to be out in the boonies and find out otherwise. I carry tire plugs and enough tools to keep a semi running. That way I'm insured that I'll never need any of it.
For my Z16, I prefer the oem compressor kit...just because I like to have the oem stuff for the car if possible.
For our daily drivers, I have SLIME compressor kits which I got from AUTOZONE.
There's probably not much significant difference in oem or after market. If it's the time that it takes to fill a tire using the oem compressor that's of concern, I doubt any after market compressor will be any faster...unless you put a 24v battery on it.

I'm looking for a kit also.Know of two so far besides GM.Tirerack has one made by Conti and Autozone has one made by Slime, the name of the tire sealant. The Slime unit has a faster air compressor that inflates a passenger tire in 3 minutes and comes with tire patches and patching tools. There is a light built-in the compressor too.The price is $80.00.I have to check this one out at a Autozone store. Can't wait to get rid of my crap run-flats!

It's time to think outside the car box. Go to ebay and search Ford Flex, or Chevy Tahoe, etc. They have a beauty of an OEM compressor; solidly built and pumps like a nympho. And, get this, it usually goes for around $15!
I have short valve stems on fikse rims and autozone/pepboys etc. type with clip type stem connector would not work. My zo6 pump worked great as it screws on vs clamp-on. I carry autozone orange bottle stuff and bottle of green slime as well as tire puncture kit. original stock fix a flat in bottle I would not trust=last resort as it is 02 dated.
