My buddy just bought a stock 2006 GTO with the V8 engine automatic trans.
It is listed at 400HP.
He wants to race it against my 2004 C5 Coupe.
My 2004 coupe is also and auto and mostly stock except for Diablo preditor, Halltech stinger, corsa exhaust.
What do you think?

The GTO is heavier, but has 50 more HP. I agree that in a quarter mile race, it could be very close.

Yeah, I have heard they do great. But u alreayd have an intake, so dont' know how much of a diffrence you can expect. Do you still have original runflats? if so ditch them too. Cars are really pretty equal. Hp advantage for GTO, Weight advantage for vette. you start out at 350, mods are good for prolly 360-370 or so (not sure how good the diablo tuner is). That leaves you looking for 30-40 hp. Not sure on the GTOs weight, but I bet they are closing in on the 4k pound mark, as opposed to about 3300. Again, I think you will be okay, but it will be close.

At the end of the day, only way to find out. Just keep it on the track, don't go and get yourself or your firend (or someone totally innocent) hurt.

If you are racing on a track just work on your launch and it shouldn't be a race. I have put many stock 05-06 gto's in my rearview. Trap speed wise I trap 112.xx mph with just a vararam and catback. But I do have an M6. Most stock 05-06 goats trap around 106-108. So work on your launch.
Now if you are roll racing (on a closed course) you should walk him.

What gears do you have in your coupe, 2.73?
I have 3.15 in my coupe and a friend has a 6-speed GTO and he can take me from a roll on a track. But not too bad, I have a tune, Halltech intake.
If you have 3.15 gears and his automatic you should be able to take him I think, If you have 2.73 gears you might have a bit of trouble.
