Someone was telling me they heard of someone who bought new Kumho tires from some place on the Internet for under $500 for their C-5 Corvette. Do you guys know anthing about maybe where? What do you people think of NON RUN-FLAT Kumho tires? Think I am leaning toward the General.
thankx

I've been looking at both tires as well (Kumho MX vs General Exclaim UHP). From what I've read, the Generals have great dry traction, wet traction and low noise. The problem is that they have a softer sidewall than the Kumho's, which historically have been criticized for being a little soft too. So for rapid dynamics (ie. AutoX, road track, etc) it seems that the Kumho is a better bet.
For less noise, and better wet traction, go for the Generals...
By the way, the Kumho XS looks like an interesting tire...
When I had my C4 ..... I put a new set of Kuhmos on it ...... great tires for the $$$$$$ ........ when the C5 is ready for a new ... Kuhmos will be my choice ....
don't know about the price, but tirerack.com is the probably the cheapest place online.
as far as the tire itself, it is what it is. I have the MX runflats and they're pretty hard but every runflat is. the non-runflats are typical tires. if you need cheap tires in your sizes, they're pretty okay. how's that for non-committal!
I assume you are NOT looking at all-season tires. But just in case you are, I can tell you the Kumho ASX's are very cheap, look good, have as much dry performance as I will ever use, perform really well in the wet and handle snow up to about 4". Also, not as horrible on ice as summer tires.
They are not noisy. The set I had on the C4 would flat-spot a bit when not driven for a day or so; that cured itself in a couple miles. I have not noticed this on the C5 and I have no idea why. I was not that impressed with the tread life on my C4 (20K on the rears, 30K on the fronts), but I put them on the C5 just to see how long they will last in that application. I bought them from Tire Rack.
I know you dont want run flats, but the kumho ectsa have been VERY good on my C5, little noise and have been reliable (i have nitrogen in all four and the pressure does stay more consistent). I can put you in touch with a guy that can probably get you a good deal on tires.
I have Kuhmo MX's on my C4, great tire for the price. Only downside, they flatspot if you let the car sit for a ~week. The first few miles can be a little shaky after some downtime.
Perfect timing for this thread. I have read a lot about the Kumho's in the forum. It so happened, I called the local tire store today and got a price of $774 drive out for the Kumho's, and $860 for BF Goodrich. Haven't seen much on the BF Goodrich, so will probably go with the Kumhos. Appreciate all of the information I've gotten from the forum over the last couple of years.
I bought my Vette with Kumho MX's on it, and I must say, they were pretty nice. The only thing I didn't like was they didn't chirp when I tried to break them loose a little bit.
When the time came for me to change 'em, I looked for a less expensive alternative, and came across the General Exclaim UHP's on Tirerack.com. At around $400 shipped and $125 installed, I was pleased enough... then I took a ride... noticeably less road noise, softer feel on the highway, and--- perfect "CHIRP" note!
I haven't noticed any flat surface after months of sitting over the winter, either... yet...

I had kumho mx when I bought mine. Back didnt' have much left, and I went to asx there, as mine is more of a DD. So far, I am happy. MX deff. stick better, but when they get wore out, they have no traction it seems. If I hammer at speeds (even once or twice at about 50) I get some slip in the rear with the asx, enought I get the little note on the comptuer "active handling." My car is also stock (as far as I know) except for a CAI.
For everyday use though, they are great! If I didn't have the active handling, I might think diffrenelty as it has helped several times.
