Back in Sept of 2007 my passenger window quit working. I had it repaired and only had to meet my $100 deductible instead of the total cost of $600. Well, needless to say, it hasn't worked for the past week. I took it to the dealership for repair but only discovered the motor is not easily available (in stock). It was ordered but now I discovered that GM has modified the motor and the connectors do NOT match up. Now I have the dealership trying to locate an unmodified motor for my window with the additional assistance of GM. Has anyone else met this problem while attempting to repair the window in the past couple of months? Apparently this modification is recent. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.
Why would they change the connectors?
Are you sure they ordered the motor for a C5 and not a C6?
Also, many are finding that the motor is not the reason the windows quit working every time. It is because the motor gets in a bind up against the stops, and just gets stuck. If you can free it up, the window will start working. Did you try tapping on the motor while pushing the down button?
Are they ordering just the motor, or the whole regulator assembly?
Also, there is a company that will repair your regulator assembly and return it to you.
Thanks for the reply. I will ask them to give me the order form/part number and double check to see if maybe they did order the wrong part number for a C6 and not my C5. All I know is that I am annoyed now thinking that they lied to me about a "modified" motor that did not match with the existing connector.
I did knocking on the door panel (and even kept myself from kicking the door in) and it did not work. It would really upset me if there is actually NOTHING wrong with the motor and I am paying for a service that is NOT required.
I do recall hearing a whining/chirping sound come across my radio just before the window quit working. A couple of days prior this occurence, I had heard the same noise over the radio but thought nothing of it.
Mine has done this several times. Try popping off the cap located behind the door handle. Take a flat head screw driver and have someone else hold down on the window button. Take the screw driver and place it on one of the screw heads and hold it there. Take a hammer and tap on the screw driver while the window button is being held down. The motor will usually free up after a few taps....sometimes it takes a few more. Start with light taps, but don't be afraid to hit it a little. Just don't go pounding it.
Yep, the window was finally repaired. As I mentioned before, the motor has since been modified and it required a new connector. The motor was covered by my extended warranty but not the new required connector. In the process, I also required that the Cruise Control be repaired with an end result of only a blown fuse . My total cost was just over $200 versus the service bill of nearly $800 . I think this is a rip off. I am considering taking some auto mechanic course at the local Jr. College and save me some money!!! Not to worry, I've already ordered some C5 Corvette manuals... I hope it helps.
