I am selling my 2001 C5, I bought a 4 year GMPP Warranty which has 18 months left on it. Does anyone know what it will cost to transfer it to the new owner?
Thanks, Vinnie
Hi There:
I'am looking at a copy of the letter that was sent to General Motors Protection Plan.
P.O. Box 6855
Chicago,Il 60680-6855

The original owner sent this letter in tranferring the f/warranty to me. Cost him $35 for transfer fee letter dated 12/2/06. He also had a copy of his gmpp card at the bottom of this letter. No transfer form sent as the owner would have provided one for me.(he was very particular about paper work). Is the phone number the same one you have ?

It was $35 and now is $50, you also need a transfer form so the previous owner of the plan (original owner) can sign off stating he is willing to transfer to new owner.

It is my understanding the owner of a GMPP can terminate it and get a pro- rated refund, correct? If true then one would want to know what the refund would be so he/she could decide whether or not it is worth it to transfer it to a new owner because, if it were a goodly sum of money, couldn't the new owner of the transferred plan cancel it and get the refund himself? If so, I'd get the new buyer of my car to pay me for the value of the balance of the policy before transferring it him/her.

It's part of the sale negotiation. It might go something like this.
Buyer: I'd feel better about moving forward if the car still had some kind of warranty.
Seller: I've got the GMPP warranty.
Buyer: Toss it in and we have a deal
Seller: It'll cost you fifty bucks to get it transferred into your name.
Buyer: Fine, deduct that fifty from the sale price of your car and I'm ready to do business.
Seller: Blow me. I can cash this puppy in and get money back if you want to start getting all cheap *** on me.
Buyer: Okay, okay. Here's the GMPP release form. Please sign where indicated. Thank you, sir!
Once the seller signs the release, they can't terminate the coverage. So just print up the form, have the seller sign off and you're good to go with the warranty.
