Default Exotic Vette

Well, after a lengthy debate,I decided to order an insulation kit from Exotic Vette. I was hoping to cut don on heat and a little road noise.Ed sold me the kit for $205 so I didn't think it was too bad of a price.
I'm not typically one to bash any company or their products, but I really hope that someone out there decides to start making a better kit for our cars. The kit I recieved was of terrible fit. Most pieces look and fit like they were cut out by a 3 year old. Somehow, the pieces were wet inside the black plastic sleeve that they were shipped in. So aside from everything being stuck together, they were also covered in mildew. I had to cut numerous pieces of spare insulation to fill most gaps due to the poor fitment. It was really disappointing. For someone who claims to have sold "hundreds" of these kits,it really looks like they just started making them last week. Heat and noise were slightly reduced but I may be just trying to convince myself that the $200 (which I could've put towards the audio system I want) was well spent. I'd stay away from them if I were you guys.

I have voiced my displeasure with this vendor in the past and been bashed for it.
Your experience sounds similar to mine, although at least mine was dry.
Mine was poorly labeled, missing a piece, and I too had to spend a lot of time filling in pieces.
His protestations of outstanding service are certainly questionable IMO.
I even ordered a partition at the same time and didn't have to pay extra for a small rip in it. Again

First off Lance, I would sincerely like to thank you for CONTACTING ME about any problem you had to allow me to address it or at least have the opportunity to correct it and make you happy. I've had a few issues in the past with things going wrong and I do my best to make the customer happy.... I've refunded the full amount of a product that I didn't even ask for it returned to a number of guys!

I do understand that some people are never going to be happy and unless my kit came with a little midget to pop out of the kit and install it, with the car sounding quieter than a Lexus GS they will complain.... However, the issue of mildew on the kit is something that apparently was brought to my attention by another customer last week. My employee that cuts the kits had been cleaning out the cutting area and put the kits on the side of the building. The sprinklers went on and he never mentioned it. The other customer who wrote me about the issue installed it and didn't have a problem with it - however, I PM'd and let him know that I would be happy to refund him a large amount of the price for the poor quality in my opinion. This is the FIRST and LAST time this has happened with this issue. The pieces of the kits I've found that were wet are simply discolored on the aluminum from the hard water minerals but there was NO mildew or odor on any of the 8 kits I've pulled from inventory.....

I'm not sure who 'Ed' is that sold you the kit, but I'm the only person who deals with sales other than Heather occasionally (and I'm sure she has never been mistaken for an 'Ed'). I'm really sorry that you weren't happy with the quality, which was not something that I had any knowledge of. Had you simply contacted me by email or voicemail or PM or something I have a feeling you would have been driving an insulated Vette for free or next to it. Since you feel the need to publicly cost me sales and bash the name I try to build with the thousands of customers I've had the pleasure to business with I feel confident I will not be much ablidged to extend much courtesy in return.

Thanks for being a stand-up guy....

First off,let me apologize for using the wrong name. I looked at the wrong email on my blackberry. So yes that's my fault.
However, that's the least of the problems. The fit is obviously a HUGE issue with these products. The pictures that the web page shows are of perfect kits with everything fitting together flawlessly and with aluminum tape sealing the edges. What I got was a kit that didn't have a single piece that fit correctly without needing either trimming or additional pieces to fill in the gaps.
I knew the car was not going to be silent. I did not use any other type of sound deadener and my car has headers,no cats and Z06 Ti exhaust. Not quiet by any means. But then again,it's a performance car. If I wanted complete silence,I would sit in the driveway with the car turned off and the windows up.
The water, apparently, isn't directly your fault. So I should apologize for that too.

I was very excited to order and install this kit. Even after I saw the visable issues with this kit. I used the product. I was hoping that the product would still live up to the claims of the manufacturer/seller. Which it did not by a long shot. You knew that some of the kits had water damage, however you chose not to contact people who had recently purchased kits from you about this issue. So don't blame that on me.

As for being a stand up guy...Let's just think about that for a second. A stand up guy looks out for his friends (ie the members of the board). Which I did. A stand up guy does not use a product, then ask for a refund. A stand up guy does not sell a product, then try to buy someone off with a refund so that they won't discuss the problems with said product with other people. A stand up guy will contact other recent customers once they find out about an issue such as water damage to see if they had similar issues. So who's really the "stand up guy" in this situation. I discussed product issues and gave my review of the product to the board. You chose to take personal shots at me instead.

So if I cost you customers and sales. Maybe that's a good thing. It may give you some time to find someone else to cut your kits. Someone who actually cares about fitment and won't leave a customers product(which has already been paid for) in their yard with the sprinklers running, then ship them without saying a word to you about it.
May also give you a chance to think about how important your customers are to you in the first place.

I believe you should have contacted him first, for sure. I just visited the web site, and it clearly states that if you have any issues, to call or e-mail with the link provided. I think that bashing the vendor BEFORE making him aware of the situation is bad form. I will not take your advice to stay away from him. As a matter of fact, I will be checking back often for new products - and pictures of Heather! ( or is it Ed )

Default GREAT customer service from DAN!

WOW!! I had no idea about the discussions that had been going on here about Dan's product.

I ordered a kit from Dan and did the install last Saturday (4/11). I sent Dan an email as just a "head's up" that when I opened my kit there was some moisture on the product and some discoloration. He emailed me back IMMEDIATELY (this was on a Saturday!) and thanked me for bringing it to his attention and told me to "email me anytime" if I needed anything or had any questions on the install. He also PM'd me and offered to give me a discount/refund on my purchase. This offer was unsolicited by me. Dan did this on his own. I must say that the discoloration is NOT mildew, it is nothing more than mineral deposits from the water/metal. Dan told me to send it back and he would replace it at no charge...I chose not to because I personally did not see how the discoloration was going to adversely affect the performance of this product.

I went ahead and did my install and the fit on my kit was GREAT. No, it was not perfect by any means, but I was more than willing to pay the $200 to get not only pre cut pieces, but lay out diagrams and VERY detailed instructions as well. To me, the additional resources provided by Dan more than made this a worthwhile purchase.

No, I do not have headers or an aftermarket exhaust on my car, but I can notice the difference that it has made in BOTH heat and sound coming into the car. No, it is not as quiet as a Lexus...but do we really want it to be? One of the biggest differences that I have noticed is the reduction in heat from the dreaded tunnel BBQ.

I do understand that each of us has our own experiences and will make our own judgements. I just would like to go on record as saying that in my book, Dan has gone above and beyond in the scope of his customer service to me. I contacted him with a "heads up" when I rec'd the product and he has done (and continues to do) anything that he can to make it right for ME. All without me complaining or posting negative comments. The product that I purchased from him was as described, the performance of the product is better than I had hoped for, and the customer service that I have received is far better than I would have anticipated.

Thanks Dan!!

Unresolved disputes
The Forum allows a factual post on an unresolved dispute with a vendor or another member once all efforts to resolve the issue offline have been exhausted. Then, the post must be factual and cannot be used to bash the vendor or the member. Once the post has been made, it cannot be repeated in other sections or on other days.

Moderators will try to leave such threads open until everybody with direct knowledge of the issue being addressed has had a chance to provide their version of the facts. The thread must not become a running debate on the accuracy of the “facts” and may not deteriorate into an exchange of personal attacks. Neither should be used as an opportunity for speculation by those who do not have direct knowledge of the issue.

Once there has been the opportunity for the facts on all sides to be posted, the thread will be locked. It will remain in the database and will be available for review by those who are researching the topic, vendor or member.

The Forum is not in a position to monitor transactions or to determine the “true facts” in most disputes. Upon request, however, the Forum will try to intervene and mediate a settlement suitable to all parties in a dispute. When issues are resolved in the matter, it will be posted to the original dispute thread so it becomes part of the searchable record. We believe that is a more useful record of performance for potential customers than would be an eBay-style rating system.

As has been our past practice, members or vendors who show a pattern of unresolved issues will be removed from Corvetteforum.com.

Occasionally, members fail to recognize the importance of exhausting all efforts to settle an unresolved dispute, issue, or concern offline.

Such action can seriously damage the reputation of the business, the owner, their employees, or another member.

Members need to realize that when they create a thread, even if the information is factual, if they have not given the business/owner/member the opportunity to make things right, hundreds of members will still read the thread and walk away thinking less of the business and member, and could hinder future purchases.

Therefore, it is imperative that members contact the business/member via phone, e-mail, or PM to attempt to settle an issue or concern offline and afford them the opportunity to make things right or to clarify what may have gone wrong
