Non-engine differences between Z06 and regular corvettes?
On a different note-----what changes did they make between the 2001 and 2002 z that added the 20hp?
Thanks a bunch.
The Z06 was lighter
A slight difference in body appeaance with the brake ducting
Suspension was different.
Gearing might be not sure.
Exhaust system
Differences between 01 and 02 for more power.
I believe the heads were different not positive.

The years 1999 and 2000 introduced a new model, the FRC, or Fixed Roof Coupe. There were a few design differences that were different with the FRC, mostly to try and introduce an 'inexpensive' corvette. Surveys proved this to be an unattractive option for buyers so the FRC was set up a certain way to make it a more performance oriented version. The roof line was shortened to shave a little weight off and there was a chassis stiffener added right under the read window. It was fitted with the Z51 suspension which was the high performance suspension then. You could only order them with a black interior and a 6 speed manual trans.
Sales were pretty good for FRC's that year but dropped off in 2000. In order to boost sales they decided to further enhance the performance of the FRC by upgrading the suspension, adding the Z06 interior package, further lightening enhancements, a beefed up drivetrain, and a more powerful motor, the LS6.
The 405hp LS6 was put in in 2002. The 2002 LS6 had the same heads as the 2001 LS6 (243 castings), but the cam lift and duration was made larger and the compression went up a few 10ths. There were also some computer upgrades.
The 'beefier' driveline consisted of a larger torque tube, different gearing in the transmission, and shot-peened gears in the rear. All manual transmissions for all corvette C5's came with a 3.42:1 rear axle ratio.
We like to mod from there

So what you are saying is that the FRC went from being the poor mans Vette to the rich mans Vette basically? LOL

It is against most track and racing organizations regulations for your harness belts to pass "around" the seats. They must pass "through" them......
So, it IS pretty strange to have the Z06 be the ONLY C5 that can not be ordered with the Sport seats from the factory...
Rear brake ducts
titanium cat back exhaust
wider wheels
thinner glass
less sound insulation
non removable roof
more aggressive gearing
stiffer suspension than Z51
non runflats
tire inflator kit (to make up for the non runflats)
no tire pressure monitors (can't use with fix a flat)
fixed mast antenna
no sport seat option
bigger airbox lid opening
lighter rims
transmission temp sensor

- who came up with that idea
