Default I want in!

To a C5 Vette that is. I've posted here before asking about you taller owners and your opinions on the car, and for that, I thank you. I've been looking around at cars recently, and I've always wanted a small, compact, sports car that I can throw around and occasionally daily drive. My problem, I'm 6'8", and was always more of a seat of the pants obsessive driver than a sports superstar. I've had a rough go of it trying to find a car that would fit me. It's been pretty much narrowed down the to the Mini Cooper S and Mazdaspeed3. However, I've lusted after Vettes for some time now, and the C5s caught my eye. Problem is, I can't fit.

I sat in a 2002 model with the FE3 (<I think, magnetic selective ride thingy) suspension and a whole bunch of power seat adjustments. My head room was okay, but the problem was the dash. My knees were against the lower panel of the dashboard. Other than that, I believe leg room would have been good provided I was lower. I am contemplating having a local guy I know do some work on it provided I bought one, for me. I don't have specifics, but I would have to believe that you could go ***** out and make some decent room for a taller person.

What do you guys think? Any suggestions or comments? I love these cars, but my height is becoming more of a curse. I would love to have a little roadster like a MX-5 or Z3, but it is simply not possible. I am getting downright angry with car companies. They build a vehicle with so narrow a market in mind and it makes it utterly impossible for people with height to enjoy. If you're short, you can move the seat up and up. If you're fat, you can lose some weight or cut your bolsters. What do you do if you're tall?

I'm 6'4" and stout. I fit well in the car but if I was any taller it probably would not be comfortable.

6'5", 275 here and I fit snugly. Sounds like you are all legs.

Only way I can see you getting to fit is with some aftermarket seats or removing the adjusting tracks all together and bolting the seat directly to the floor.

Even if you do that you won't get any more rearward motion because the seat is pretty much smashed up against the waterfall in my car now.

I've been where you are before, I've modified two of my last vehicles (02 camaro) and older Grand Prix so that the seats were 3" further back than stock, which gave me some wiggle room. Problem is that there is no space behind the vette seats to use up.

I've got the same problem in my 09 Camry in that the head room is marginal, I'm going to have someone local fab up new seat mounts so I can lower the seat about 1.5" or maybe 2". This will also help with being able to see out of the top part of the windshield.

I'm sure you get this all the time, people honking their horn at me because I don't pull all the way up to the white lines at traffic lights, or I can't see them unless I look out the sunroof.

Yes I agree being tall sucks. Bad enough being 6'5", those extra 3" you got would be horrible.

Go ***** out? Seems to me either you fit or you don't.

If you don't fit, in your pursuit you must quit.

My apologies to Johnny Cochoran.

My brother is 6'5" and fits fine. He doesn't have the dead pedal in left front of the driver's footwell for a bit more left leg room.

I have a product for you! www.lightinsight.com. Heard about this product over on North American Motoring, (a Mini forum) just put it on your windshield and presto, you can see.

How about a 'vert?

If you think the C5 is tight then you are definitely SOL with the C6. I'm only 5'11'' and have to move the seat forward in the C5. In the C6 I usually have the seat all the way back.

Yeah. I know the C6 is bad, but I was told by a bunch of owners the C5 would possibly work, which it still might with modification. Sucks too, because I like the C6 just a tad more...

Just an idea, I have no idea if it would work or not, but you may want to look into an aftermarket racing type seat? They tend to be very thin and would probably allow you to gain an extra 2-3" rearward?

If thats still not enought room, get a sheetmetal seat, it won't be comfortable at all, but atleast you get to have your Vette

6'4" 250 have a 99 hardtop I fit comfortable with plenty headroom. Had a c4 and my head was less then an inch from the sunroof which I hit with regularity.
If Chevrolet would have moved the pedals further to the front of the car you would then have unbelievable leg room. With the seat back you can't touch the firewall with your feet.
The C6 will never be on my list because of what they did to the legroom. They say its the same size inside
My other cars are lincoln mark VIII, 00 Continental and Suburban. All have great legroom except for the poor sap that sits behind me

If you remove the stock power sliders and install some custom manual rails, I'm sure you can lower the seats an inch or two. Clear roof will give you more headroom....

You'll be ok...6'1" here and mostly legs. Hair tight on the headroom but I manage to make it work with ease. Managed to fit myself into an RX-8 years ago and it makes this thing feel like an excursion in comparison.

I have looked into that too. In fact, I think I saw a thread around here with a member installing Hard Bars type rails and a Sparco Evo2 seat. Thanks for the tip!

I'd have to believe there is only so much you can do to give yourself more leg room. As much as I love Vettes, I don't know if I would buy one with the hope that it can be modified to where I am comfortable.
