I just received a new alternator from Gene Culley and it looks different from my original alternator. It has a made in France label and the pulley is significantly different then the original one in my car. The new alternator has a longer snout protruding from the pulley assembly. It physically looks like it will fit but I'm having doubt's this is the right part. Is this a new style? Has anyone ordered an alternator recently, and if so, did it look like the one pictured?
The car is a 2002 Z06 and the part I received was 10316182

The reason the pully looks different is because they added a clutch to the pully, Why did they do this you ask?
There have been some issues with vibration when the wheel was turned far right or left and they found that adding a clutch to the alt pully got rid of the vibration.
There you have it.
Same unit I have on my 2002...

I had one like that on mine but it interferred with my new FLIP-DRIVE set-up for the SuperCharger and I had to have it removed and a standard pulley put on
If you do not like the CLUTCH Style then you can go to the Alternator shop and have them swap it out - you will need a special tool to remove the clutch style - I know because I watched the guy remove it and explained about the tool he had to buy especially for them
