Default IPOD problem - need help

I just hooked up my Ipod (Nano 4G) this morning. It is not working. I hooked up the Peripheral iPod2Car - PXDP and PXHGM4 harness. I set dip switches 3 and 8 on and rest off. If I plug the ipod in with the car off, I get the "charging not allowed for the accessory" message. If I turn the car on, I get the Ipod menu, but I can't navigate. When I press the AUX button on the radio, it indicates CD 1, Track 1 as if it is working, but I get to sound output. The ipod's volume is turned up if that matters. Installation is so straight forward, I don't know what could be done incorrectly.

I bought the PODCBLBM-5V cable to allow the 4G Nano to charge, but the cable has the wrong size connector.

Seems like I had a problem when I first installed mine. Had to unplug it from the cable and plug it back in or something. I had read someone else who had issues but once it started working (sync'd up) it kept working.

I would be a very old thread now because I've had mine for quite awhile now.

Also, mine charges when the key is off. Maybe also if the radio is turned off, I'm not sure.

I thought someone on a related thread said that you have to have the latest ipod software for it to work. Not sure tho...

You have an older style PXDP because it has a REGULAR SIZE DIN plug. To use the PODCBLM-5V you need a MINI DIN plug on the PXDP.

I have no experience with the iPod2Car - PXDP and PXHGM4 harnesses. But I had to get an adapter to get my Nano to charge with my Ipod cable to my Kenwood head unit.

My understanding is the 4th generation use a different pin and voltage for charging. I bought an adapter that fits between the Nano and the Ipod plug that works

Just an FYI ... not sure if this will help you

Good Luck...

Here's another option for charging the Ipod:

http://www.isimplesolutions.com/CES/ReVolt.asp

I had the same issue with my Peripheral Ipod2car. I just unplugged it from the stereo side and plugged it back in and it worked. Also, check the settings in your Ipod. If I'm not mistaken, there may be a setting in the Ipod on the newer models that has to be enabled for the Peripheral box to "find" the unit. I know I helped someone with a newer Ipod who couldn't get it to play (on their treadmill of all things) and that was the problem.

Lastly, did you power off everything through the ignition? Leave everything hooked up and turn off the accessory power and turn it back on...

I unplugged the harness from the back of the stereo and then plugged it back in. I now get sound from the ipod. However, I still can control anything on the ipod (Nano 4G). A rep from Peripheral said that it sounded like I had a version 1.4 of the PXDP, but I need a version 1.5 with my ipod. I then tried my wife's Ipod Video (a couple of years old). I am able to control that ipod. So, I think I am going to just use the older Ipod Video. It takes up more space, but it also holds a lot more songs.
