make sure your local garage has worked on 'Vettes...if they haven't you don't want any cracked rocker panels, etc...I go to my local guys and bring the Mobil 1 and my preferred K&N oil filter...that price you quoted seems higher than I remember the dealer was...if you go to a dealer, you may be buying some good will at the same time that could come in handy later...just a thought...

I always do this and the dealer has no problems.

It is a little bit more than $9.95, more like $13 now, but well worth it.

I can't believe no other vette owner in your area (Tampa, FL) hasn't volunteered to help you out with the oil change, especially someone who might have a lift. A little bonding between owners, where's that lending hand anyway? Just limited to a passing wave now and then?

Any tips?
Believe it or not, the local dealer actually charged me less than the local shop! But, I would NEVER bring it to a Jiffy Lube, IMHO! Actually I'm thinking about just hitting the reset button the next time. I was told by some Vette mechanics at the local dealership that 6K miles between oil changes for a Vette using synthetic oil is fine.

Check with your dealer and see if they will do the change if you buy the oil/filter. If they will, it shouldn't cost much for just the labor.

The only reason I mentioned the Oil change chain option is that they often have a pit (not a lift) so there is virtualy no chance of lifting it wrong (I guess they could drop it in the pit on the way in, but . . . .)

And regarding the 6000 miles between oil changes : From what Ive read, we have a particularly good oil monitoring system on the C5. Just check the Oil Life Remaining on the DIC and change it when it gets to 10% or so. You can change it more often if you want to, but you are likely just wasting good oil. Changing according to a milage number does not take into account how the car was driven in those miles. The Oil monitoring system takes start cycles, temperatures, revolutions and a bunch of other things into account. If you drive hard, it will go down faster, if you drive easy it will last longer. Basic rule with C5's is change oil when Oil monitoring system indicates or one year (no matter what the % left is, change once a year).

Post this in the Southeast section of the forum and you should be able to find a buddy to hook up with for the oil change and then get good info on maintaining the rest of your car (and start modifications as needed)

I was told by a Vette mechanic that the oil life remaining percentages were based purely on miles and doesn't actually monitor the oil at all. Is that not correct???
