Strange noise please help
TOUGH ONE HERE GANG ..I JUST HAD MY REAR BUMPER CHANGED TO PREFACE THIS THING. AT 60MPH AND OVER A RATTLING NOISE CAN BE HEARD THAT SOUNDS LIKE WHAT CAN ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS A FAST SNARE DRUM TYPE SOUND ITS A QUICK PACED THUMP THAT DOESNT SOUND LIKE METAL TO METAL BUT RATHER HARD PLASTIC TO RUBBER.WHEN I DROP BELOW 60 MPH IT STOPS.IT SOUNDS WIND RELATED AND IT COMES FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR.I TOOK OUT THE TAIL LIGHTS AND LISCENSE PLATE ASSEMBLY AND GOT A GOOD LOOK AT EVERY THING THE ONLY THING LOOSE WAS WHAT APPEARED TO BE A RUBBER HOSE THAT ATTACHED TO WHAT LOOKED LIKE A WHITE PLASTIC GAS FILTER WHICH I KNOW IT ISNT BECAUSE THE GAS FILTER IS ELSEWHERE.HAS ANY BODY HAD THIS WEIRD PROBLEM I GRABBED THE CALIPERS AND THEY ARE TIGHT,I HAD CHEVY CHECK THE UNDER SIDE OF THE CAR LAST WEEK DURING AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY SAID THE EXHAUST IS TIGHT SO I DONT KNOW IVE HAD THE CAR SINCE 2004 ITS A1999 COUPE CAN ANYONE OFFER SOME ADVICE IM GOIN CRAZY WITH THIS ANNOYING NOISE

Sounds to me like the wind pressure is making your rear bumpper cover"flap" in the wind.I would take it back to whomever installed it and let them hear it.let em know you didnt have the noise before hand!

Thanks for postin back yeah i did and he took the tail lights out and looked and dammit theres nothing in there that looks like it could mke this rubbery sounding rattle unless the flat part of the bumper is just flapping, i dont know theres no way to check this noise out while doing 60mph people who ride along with me and hear it are just as mystified as me. See if you can get someone to ride next to you at that speed and see if they can see anything externally flapping.
If it didn't start until they replaced the rear bumper you've got to assume it is something that they had to remove that is causing the problem.
