Default How difficult are C5 body repairs

I caught a curb on my right side just before the rear puck.

It cut into the matting under the paint but not through the sill panel.
Size is about 4x5" oval. Can't really see it when outside the car.....but I do want to repair it.

Has anyone done a fill and repair like this?

What products did you use and what results did you get?

Looking for advice

well to just fill it in wouldn't be advisable. I'd replace the whole rocker. That is a PAIN in the *** on these cars. if you want to pay a shop i think i could get a rocker for ya. There is a local yard that has one in dark red

I really don't think this damage is at the level that would require replacing the entire rocker.
I would guess that the disassembly and reassembly time alone would be very costly.......not to mention the paint costs.

So no one has done a small repair to the Vette panels ?

The rocker is $230 new (plus shipping)

Why not repair it in place ?

Is the junk yard one the right rear rocker ? any idea what they want for it ?

They are glued on. You don't want to do this, if you don't have too.

Post up a picture of the damage.

Repair would consist of glueing in a piece of SMC and then filling in patch area.

Easy repair,no way I would replace the whole rocker for that.Just drop it off at a body shop and dont worry about it,you will be happier than trying to lay on your back and repair it yourself. Somewhere I have pics of mine,RR brake duct torn off car along with the bottom front corner of the fender/rear rocker.Fixed good as new, looks better than the other side (rock chips) and I did NOT replace a rocker.

Can't cost that much to repair, take it to a reputable body shop. It's fiber glass, not that easy to work with. A have a$$ed job will always be noticeable.

It's not fiberglass it's SMC (Sheet Molded Compound).

Should be around $350 to fix, paint and clear coat.

Basically need to clean up the area and wipe down with a wax removal solevant and fill in with some SMC approved filler.

Sand, prime, paint & clear.

Cost of the repair will depend on how they paint the area. To do it perfect, they will have to remove the door and respray the entire rocker and door jamb - very labor intensive.

The cheapest method with decent results IMHO would be to repair and spot spray the red and then re-clear the rocker with the door jamb back taped to fade/blend the clear right at the edge where it would be very difficult to see.

Good luck.

Ahh ,, didn't know that ! Tks for letting me know. I'd still go to a body shop, unless you happen to be handy at that kind of stuff.

Fiberglass and SMC have different properties. After awhile it will cause cracks, using figerglass on SMC as the two materials contract and expand at different rates.
